Whew...That was a Close One! Braves Ride Jones Boys for 9-7 Win

If there was any sort of carryover from the loss Friday night, it sure didn't show the last two days. And if there were any reason to doubt Andruw Jones being a leading candidate for the MVP award, the last few days should put those doubts to rest.

The bullpen ONCE AGAIN blew a lead...a 4 run lead at that. Today it was Boyer and Foster who got the chance to fall apart. It's really amazing how the pen continues to haunt the Braves. It doesn't make me feel real confident heading into the playoffs.

But at least this time things were a little different. Facing the Nationals All-Star closer, Chad Cordero, Chipper and Andruw homered in the 9th to shock Washington and bring the Braves a most improbable win.

Back to Andruw a moment. He hit home runs number 48 and 49 today and added RBI number 120 and 121. Those home runs increase Jones' lead over Derrek Lee and the two RBI move him within 2 of the league leader, David Ortiz.

The starting pitching was once again strong today, as Smoltz allowed just 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk.

It was a good win today, but you have to wonder how much longer Chipper, Andruw, and company can continue to bail out the middle relievers on this team. Time will tell I suppose.
