Open Thread - Tuesday, September 13 - Atlanta at Philadelphia

I decided that there's really not much to talk about when it comes to yesterday's game. The Braves were just flat out beat. Period. No excuses.

Hopefully today, their bats will come alive against Gavin Floyd because if they don't, we have even bigger problems.

Floyd, once the Phillies top pitching prospect, had regressed a bit before pitching well the last month or so at AAA. He's been under the guidance of former Philadelphia pitcher coach and Brooklyn Dodger great Johnny Podres.

Let's see if the Braves can get more than 5 or 6 hits tonight.

Here's tonights matchup:

ATL: RHP John Thomson

  • 3-4, 4.60 ERA in 2005
  • 1-0, 0.00 ERA vs. PHI in 2005
PHI: RHP Gavin Floyd
  • 1-2, 11.25 ERA in 2005
  • 0-1, 29.25 ERA vs. ATL in 2005
Some general notes...
-Andruw Jones was named player of the week for last week after hitting 5 home runs and driving in 10
-Marcus Giles has hit safely in 36 of his last 43 games
-Todd Hollandsworth hit his 7th career pinch hit homer yesterday, his first as a Brave

Looking ahead, there's another big time pitching matchup this Saturday in New York as Tim Hudson faces off against Pedro Martinez.
