John Thomson came up with one of his best performances in recent memory, and Jeff Francoeur, Rafael Furcal, and the Jones boys homered to lead the Braves to a 6-1 victory over the Florida Marlins.
Meanwhile, in Cincinnati, the Reds held off the Phillies this time for a 3-2 win.
That brings the magic number down to 3. The last 2 victories were impressive for Atlanta as everything seemed to just click. Last night it was the timely hitting. Today it was strong pitching and a 10 hit performance by the offense. The bullpen hung in there again today and is showing signs of stepping things up.
LaRoche picked up a couple of hits today as he continues his hot hitting. Andruw finally hit homer #51 and Francoeur hit lucky #13. The Braves also stole 3 bases, showing some aggressiveness that they haven't shown as of late.
One really interesting note. I thought the Braves drew a nice crowd last night of almost 40,000, but no way was I expecting 52,000 people at Turner field today. I realize it's fan appreciation weekend, but this is still an impressive showing by Braves fans. Nice job!
