The Braves batters cured their strike-em-outs from Monday night, but still couldn't get enough runs across to win another good outing from Jorge Sosa. Sosa did just about everything he could to come away with the victory, pitching into the seventh while only giving up two hits, and hitting a homerun himself (his second of the season). But a Chipper Jones error helped San Diego plate the deciding run in the seventh inning.
With rookie Mike Thompson holding the Braves to one run through seven, the Padres set-up man Scott Linebrink and closer Trevor Hoffman did their jobs to perfection in preserving the win. The Braves will have their Thomson on the mound for the rubber game of the three-game series tonight in San Diego.
Brian McCann is showing rapid improvement and should be ready for the series opener in Chicago on Friday. Adam LaRoche is out with a stiff neck he suffered in his sleep Monday night. He is still ailing and it is uncertain when he will return to the lineup.
