Less than a year after being named Assistant General Manager of the Atlanta Braves, Dayton Moore appears to be at the top of the list to take over the general manager duties in Kansas City. While there has been no confirmation of discussions, several beat writers have picked up on the story. The latest comes from Bob Dutton of The Kansas City Star.
The Star reported Saturday that Royals owner (David) Glass offered the job to Moore. The offer, according to sources, came with a 48-hour acceptance window, which would have expired Sunday.
Sources also said Moore wanted written assurance that he would have full and final authority on all baseball-related decisions before accepting the offer.
Glass, of course, denies everything.
As you may recall, Moore turned down the offer to take over as GM for the Red Sox this past winter. One might ask then...why the Royals? Well, Dayton is a native of Wichita, Kansas and going home apparently is appealing to him.
