The sometimes-nutty Mississippi Braves manager Phillip Wellman has selected his starting lineup for the Southern Division All-Stars, and in true Wellman fashion he is starting just about every M-Braves player on the squad (source: M-Braves press release):
Order | Player, Position | Team |
---|---|---|
1 | J.C. Holt, 2B | Mississippi |
2 | Carl Loadenthal, CF | Mississippi |
3 | Brandon Jones, LF | Mississippi |
4 | Matt Esquivel, RF | Mississippi |
5 | Diory Hernandez, 3B | Mississippi |
6 | John Jaso, C | Montgomery |
7 | Javier Brito, 1B | Mobile |
8 | Donny Lucy, DH | Birmingham |
9 | Emilio Bonafacio, SS | Mobile |
10 | Matt Harrison, SP | Mississippi |
In addition to the 6 Braves listed above in the starting lineup, two members of the M-Braves bullpen were also selected to the team. Joey Devine and Jose Ascanio will most likely be used by Wellman, who seems determined to get all of his players in the game. And just yesterday, another M-Braves reliever, Zach Schreiber, was added to the team to replace Eric Cyr (Dodgers), who was promoted to triple-A. That brings to 9 the number of M-Braves on the 23-player roster.
The Southern League All-Star game will be held on July 9th at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi, the Braves home stadium.
