Out with the Jones, and in with the Jones

I'm not usually one for rushing players to the majors, and while we haven't had good luck rushing pitchers to the majors, we seem to have had good luck rushing hitters to the majors - dating all the way back to Rafael Furcal. In the last couple of years Francoeur, McCann, Yunel, Salty, Johnson, were all rushed to the majors and all found quick success. So let's continue that trend with Brandon Jones, who is all kinds of hot at triple-A right now.

In fact, Brandon Jones was just named the International League Player of the Week. Jones, who got off to a slow start at triple-A Richmond, has found his groove in August. Check out these numbers from the past week and his time at triple-A:

Split G AVG H AB R 2B 3B HR RBI SLG BB SB
Week: 6 .481 13 27 6 6 0 1 6 .815 1 2
Season: 24 .344 32 93 18 9 1 3 13 .559 10 3

Perhaps it is TIME to give Andruw a rest. After his pitiful performance in last night's game, I certainly think it's time. We'll find out today or tomorrow after the MRI on his shoulder if he will need to miss any time. If he is does need to be disabled, then we MUST call up Brandon Jones. The recognition from this award may be just the thing to convince the Braves brass that Brandon is the right person to call up. Perhaps we're rushing him, but I say rush away.
