Open Thread and an Early Smoltz: Braves at Fish (8/28)

What a treat! We got a smack-em-in-the-face win last night, and tonight we get John Smoltz on three days rest against the Flying Dutchman. This is a move made by the Cox-ster in order to split up his aces and try and save the bullpen. Of course, the way Corms pitched last night, if he can keep that up, then we'll be in much better shape that we have been lately. Still, I'm not holding my breath. I like the move of splitting up Smoltz and Hudson, if nothing else, it removes the probability of that three day void we were suffering through at the back end of the rotation.

In other, less surprising news, Mark Teixeira was named the NL player of the week for the past week. Actually he was named co-player of the week along with Jason Isringhausen. During last week, Tex hit .414 (12-for-29) with two doubles, three homers, 11 RBIs, and eight runs scored. He also has a good chance at winning NL player of the month honors with his 10 homers and 30 RBIs in 24 games for the Braves in August.
