Minor League Updates 4/28-4/30: Abridged Version

I'll get back to doing full updates when whats his name returns to doing his thing. Until then you can all suffer!!! HAHAHAHAH

4/28

Richmond 6, Durham 3

I'll go ahead and say it now cause you'll see it in the next two posts for Richmond: Diory Hernandez likes Richmond. He went 3-4 with a bomb in his third start for the big(ger) club. Morton pitched 4.2 innings of 1 run ball, but he walked 5 guys resulting in the early pull. Thats really the first trouble he has had with his command this year. He will be good insurance if we continue to have trouble with the starters.

Mississippi 8, Mobile 2

Light hitters Quentin Davis and Matt Young both hit  3-R HRs to propel the offense over the BayBears. Dustin Evans put in a solid 6IP and the bullpen pitched 3 innings of shutout ball.

Myrtle Beach 8, Lynchburg 7

The Beach keeps on plowing ahead. They tried to let this one go by giving up 6 runs in the 8th and 9th. Travis Jones likes the lead off spot. I know so because he his a homer there tonight. Jon Owings had another homer and the bottom four guys in the order all had two hits. Ryne Reynoso has really found a groove in his last couple of games. He went 6IP 5H 1R 0BB 5K. Like I said: watchlist.

Rome - Off Day

4-/29

Richmond 0, Durham 4

Jo-Jo got pulled after two innings because he got the callup to the show. He was already having his worst start of the year having given up 2 runs and 2 walks in his 2IP. I'm not worried. He has been brilliant so far this year and we should look forward to his start on Saturday. Brandon Jones did have two hits but that is all we had for the offense reall.

Mississippi - Off Day

Myrtle Beach 8, Lynchburg 6

Tyler Flowers might have busted his slump with a 4-5 3 2B performance. I honestly think he is still trying to cope with how the Beach plays against his power approach. He has an OPS over 1000 on the road versus a south of .600 one at home. Ernesto Mejia also had 3 hits on the night for the streaking Pelicans. The pitching was mostly forgettable. Unless you were the pitchers.

Greenville 8, Rome 4

Freddie Freeman had 3 hits and Heyward and Adam Coe both contributed but the offense was null otherwise. Chad Rodgers pitched well but only last 3 innings because he walked 4 in his 3IP.

4/30

Richmond 0 Durham 2

Wow, shut out two games in a row. Brandon Jones had a 2B, BB and SB. Mike Hampton started the game and promptly whined his way off the mound in the 4th inning so Chuck James could come in and finish it for him. James walked 3 men in his 4.2IP but only allowed 1 run.

Chattanooga 14, Mississippi 7

In the battle of long-ass team names Mississippi gets pounded What is crazy about this is Dan Smith pitched 6 shutout innings. The bullpen gave up all 14 runs between the 7-9 innings (including a 7 run 9th). Baffling. Smith also had two hits and a 2B for 2 RBI. Jason Perry also added his 5th HR in two weeks with the team.

Myrtle Beach 3, Lynchburg 2

Mejia and Cabrera both homered for the only two runs of the game. Tommy Hanson is officially human now as he allowed 3R (2 earned) in the ball game and struck out 4 in his 5IP. I hope he isn't tired already. He has had that happen in the past. I don't think his numbers suffering at The Beach last year were so much from stiff competition but the fact that he got tired. We shall see. I think this start is a little more indicative of what he can do. Still expect him to get bumped to AA when the draft rolls around.

Greenville 6, Rome 2

Freddie Freeman had two more hits and Adam Coe had a 2 Run 2B, but again that was pretty much all of the offense. Again Jose Ortegano pitched quite well through 6 innings only giving up 1 ER and striking out 6 with 0 walks. He is pitching very well so far this year and I will be keeping an eye on him.
