Open Thread: Mets @ Braves (5/21)

That was a nice double-header sweep yesterday. I say keep it going for the next two games and then sit back and watch the Mets implode. Jorge Campillo pitched great, and I say keep him in the starting rotation. His stuff last night was as nasty as I've seen from any Braves starter all year.

It's a new era for Jeff Francoeur, who is struggling mightily and was benched for the first time since 2005 -- a span of 370 games. Francoeur has been doing his best Andruw Jones impersonation lately which has led to a seemingly prolonged slump. The swings and misses have also plagued Frandoeur; while he only struck out 7 times in 25 games in April, he has amassed 17 strikeouts in just 17 games in May.

My new enemy number one is Ryan Church. He had two overreaching and unwarranted slides in last night's game, each time sliding into Yunel Escobar. On the first one he came up from his slide while he was under Escobar which caused Yunel to tumble over hard on the ground. The second slide was on a double play to end the game in which Church slid wide of the bag with his body and head still high off the ground (not the usual defensive take-out slide). His head hit Yunel's knee and both players went to the ground. There was no need for Church to keep his head up like he did. Just about every other player in baseball gets out of the way of the shortstop they know is jumping over the runner. This is not as bad, but it reminds me of the Darrin Erstad incident with Johnny Estrada in 2005 -- they were both overzealous borderline dirty plays.

Church had to go the hospital with a possible concussion and Yunel was said to be sore. I'm guessing we won't see Yuney in the game today and we can just hope that there is no serious damage to his knee.

Jair Jurrjens toes the rubber tonight. I'm guessing Francoeur will be back in the lineup. And after Teixeira's showing in the double header yesterday, I'm hoping he's finally found his groove.
