Minor League Recaps: 7/21

Richmond 4, Scranton/WB 6

  • J. Anderson 2-4 2B, RBI
  • B. Jones 1-4 2B, K
  • B. Canizares 3-4 HR(11), 2 RBI

Hey, you guys remember when this Richmond team was leading their division by as many as 6 games earlier in the season? You do? Well if had told you then that just a couple months later they would be 16 games under .500 would you have believed me? They went from having the best record in the IL to the second worst. I know they have lost some key contributors, but still. Lets promote all of our top prospects here, regardless of level, and see how they do.

Mississippi - OFF

Frederick 3, Myrtle Beach 4

  • G. Hernandez 2-4 2B
  • E. Campbell 2-4 2 RBI
  • J. Owings 2-4 3B
  • J. Bennett 1IP 1H 0R 0BB 0K

Jeff Bennett made a one inning rehab appearance here to start and then Scott Diamond came in and gave up 3 runs in 5 innings. Diamond has been pretty damn good this season with an ERA sitting at 3.31 through 11 starts at the Beach. Eric Campbell raised his average over .260 tonight and is hitting .410 over his last 10 games. Is he finally starting shake off the rust from that thumb injury last year?

Rome 5, West Virginia 6 (Final 11 Innings)

  • J. Heyward 1-4 HR(9), BB, K
  • C. Johnson 3-4 2 2B, RBI, K
  • A. Coe 3-5 2B, RBI, K

There it is. Jason Heyward hits his first home run since the last day of June (save for the one in the Sally All Star game). I was starting to worry. Course this could just be a blip on the radar. He still only has 3 XBH in July and 6 RBI. Of course I'm sure a lot of this can be explained because people are afraid of him now. Who knows. I was under the impression this game started at 1 PM today while I was at work, but apparently it started right after I left work. Damnit. I'll probably go to the one on Wed. though. Anyone else coming?

Pulaski 2, Danville 5

  • S. Moody 2-3 RBI, BB, K
  • G. Rodriguez 2-4 2B, 2 K
  • J. Gilmore 1-2 2 BB, K
  • C. Kimbrel 2IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K

Craig Kimbrel is utter filth. At least in this league filled with teenagers. His ERA is .54 and he has 5 saves so far. Everyone else pretty  much did what they have all been doing for the past couple of weeks.
