Tom Glavine to Visit Dr. James Andrews

Hot off the presses, here is a media advisory from the Atlanta Braves organization:

Atlanta Braves left-handed pitcher Tom Glavine will be evaluated by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., on Wednesday, April 15. Glavine, who signed a one-year contract with the Braves in January, experienced some discomfort in his left shoulder during his rehabilitation start yesterday (April 12) at Mississippi (AA) and was removed from the game in the third inning during his warm-up pitches as a precaution. Glavine underwent surgery by Dr. Andrews on August 21, 2008 in Birmingham, to repair a torn flexor tendon in his left elbow.

Glavine has been scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday, April 18 at Pittsburgh. He will be replaced by left-handed pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes, who will be recalled from the Gwinnett Braves (AAA) for his start on Saturday.

I speculated earlier that Glavine would be skipped as a precaution, and now that precaution looks like dire news. Funny that he had discomfort in his shoulder, but now it's perhaps his elbow that is really the problem.
