Braves release Phillip Britton

The Atlanta Braves organization has released minor league catcher Phillip Britton from their double-A Mississippi club. Britton was drafted in the 36th round of the 2004 draft by the Braves and signed the following year as a draft-and-follow. With the Braves organizational catching depth getting stronger from the bottom of the organization up, the younger catchers are pushing the older guys out.

Catcher Benji Johnson was promoted from Myrtle Beach to Mississippi to take Britton's place. These moves are pretty minor, but I point them out because the organization seems to be doing a lot of releasing of players this year -- dating all the way back to spring training. This is the second M-Braves player released in as many days. Yesterday, the Braves released Eric Campbell.
