Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 8/2

Gwinnett 4, Columbus 2 - 10 Innings

  • G. Blanco 1-4 2B, BB, CS(3)
  • C. Sammons 1-4 HR(7), 2 RBI
  • J. Parr 5.1IP 6H 2R 0BB 0K

A nice come from behind win for the Braves in this one as Clint Sammons hit the game winning homer in the top of the 9th and Luis Valdez finished the game with two perfect innings to end the game. James Parr was solid but unexceptional as he didn't walk anyone or strike anyone out in his 5+ innings. We did pretty well going against Hector Rondon, who is apparently a pretty good prospect in the Indians system.

Montgomery 4, Mississippi 5

  • M. Young 2-5 3B
  • W. Cabrera CS(4)
  • T. Jones 2-3 2B, RBI, BB
  • K. Cofield 5IP 5H 1R 4BB 2K

Another come from behind win! Mississippi was behind 4-2 going into the bottom of the 6th inning and scored 1 run there and then 2 more in the bottom of the 8th on back to back doubles from Travis Jones and Phillip Britton. Kyle Cofield was pretty solid in 5 innings of work and he has been for most of the year besides a 3 game run between June and July. Well nothing else interesting to report from this game.

Danville 2, Bristol 1

  • M. Jones 2-4 2B, K
  • RSF 1-4 2B, K
  • T. Stovall 5IP 2H 1R 6BB 3K

Good Lord Tyler Stovall, get your walks under control. I don't know how this guy has been this good with this many walks. I guess you could argue whether he has been good or not, but he has been limiting runs. Either way, the walks have got to come down. Cory Rasmus did pitch 3 innings of 1 hit ball and struck out 4 guys. He has been pretty solid since coming back this year. Also David Hale was pulled after 0.1 of an inning while walking one and allowing a hit.
