Sorry for no post yesterday. The new Batman game came out and I was....indisposed.
Gwinnett - Off
G-Braves still maintain a 2.5 game lead with 13 games to play, four of which are against Durham, who is trailing them
Mississippi 6, Chattanooga 7
- B. Hicks 2-5 2 HR(8), 3 RBI, K
- C. Rodriguez 4-5 3 2B
- C. Kimbrel 1IP 0H 0R 0BB 1K
Brandon Hicks has been trying to get my attention the last couple of weeks, but the problem with that is he spent the first 4 months doing little more than most fans (the ones in the stands and the ones that keep you cool). Concepcion Rodriguez, however, has been red hot lately hitting .372 in his last 10 games with 7 doubles and a homer. Remember when looking at his season stats that Mississippi is a very difficult park to hit in.
Potomac 6, Myrtle Beach 1
- C. Johnson 1-3 HR(30), 2K
Congratulations to Cody Johnson for being the first Brave at any level to hit 30 homers this season. In fact, the only other person in the organization with 20 HRs this year is Gerry Rodriguez.. He really does have prodigious power. Unfortunately for Cody he also has 160 Ks. Also Cole Rohrbough got hammered again.
Rome 9, Charleston 10- 12 Innings
- L. Sumoza 2-6 HR(4), 2 RBI, K
- S. Sime 3-6 2B, RBI, K, SB(10)
- D. Delgado 5.1IP 9H 5R 0B 6K
Rome loses and clinches the organizational sweep. Bad night for everyone (except Gwinnett). I honestly don't know what to think about Sumoza. We hear how great his tools are and he flashes the ability to put them all together sometimes, but it just hasn't fallen into place yet.
Johnson City 3, Danville 1
- M. Jones 2-4 CS(3)
- T. Stovall 3.1IP 2H 2R 6BB 4K
- J. Lorick 3.2IP 1H 0R 0BB 6K
I don't really know anything about Jeff Lorick other than the Braves have been using him mostly as a reliever and, as you can see, he can strike a dude out. (39K in 32IP). You know at the beginning of the year I wondered why Tyler Stovall didn't make one of the full season clubs like Spruill, Hoover and DeVall. Now I know.
GCL Braves 1, GCL Pirates 2
- J. Linger 1-3 HR(2)
- R. Pacheco 3IP 4H 2R 1BB 3K
Rome is the last, best hope right now for the entire organization not getting swept tonight. Go Rome! Way to fail the organization Rome. Also, Ronan Pacheco is a 21 year old Domincan southpaw who has put up mediocre stats this season. He has a few Ks, but his walks and hits are fairly high and has also given up 4 HR in 33 innings thus far.
