Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 8/6

Gwinnett 3, Toledo 10

  • R, Gorecki 2-4 K
  • B. Jones 1-4 HR(3), 2 RBI, 2K

Jonny Venters got lit up in this one allowing 8 runs in 3+ innings. Brandon Jones is trying to show some power, but he is just not convincing me. Even when he actually hit two homers last month he still posted a SLG under .400. I just don't think at this point he is going to be very useful.

Mississippi - Off

It feels like Mississippi has had an inordinate amount of days off recently. I need my freaking Heyward fix.

Lynchburg 4, Myrtle Beach 13

  • G. Rodriguez 3-5 HR(5), 4 RBI, K
  • J. Sucre 3-5 2 RBI
  • R. Gress 2-4 HR(2), 3 RBI, BB

Randy Gress has 7 biceps.

Savannah 1, Rome 2

  • A. Milligan 3-3 2B, HR(8), HBP
  • C. Culver 3-3 BB
  • D. Francis 7IP 5H 1R 1BB 5K

If Milligan can get his walks up just a little bit we could be looking at another stud prospect. His OPS between two levels right now is 1.114. He only has 150 AB on the season, but it has been an impressive bit. I wonder if they will send him to Myrtle Beach next year or start him back at Rome.

Princeton 6, Danville 2 - Game 1 - 7 Innings

  • M. Jones 2-3 2B, K
  • RSF 2-3 HR(7), 2 RBI
  • C. Rasmus 4IP 6H 4R 4BB 6K

Maybe this is why they have kept Rasmus down in the the Appy league this long. This definitely wasn't one of his better outings. He has had a couple of outings where his control has just gotten away from him. RSF has been knocking some XBH here in the last few games.

Princeton 2, Danville 3 - Game 2 - 7 Innings

  • RSF 1-3 2B, 3 RBI
  • M. Weaver 2-2 2B
  • B. Oberholtzer 7IP 4H 2R 0BB 2K

Brett Oberholtzer has only allowed more than 1 run in 2 of his 8 starts this year. He has been the typical crafty lefty so far with few walks allowed, but he has been putting up decent K numbers thus far. He has only allowed 29 hits in his 45 innings of work. Time for a change of scenery!

GCL Braves 2, GCL Yankees 1- Game 1 - 7 Innings

  • K. Rose 1-1 2 BB, SB(19)
  • C. Brewer 3.2IP 2H 1R 7BB 3K

These young pitchers put up some hilarious lines. SEVEN WALKS? And of course he only gave up 1 run. What is even crazier is that he tossed a perfect first inning, so he allowed 9 base runners in 2.2 innings of work. Crazy stuff.

GCL Braves 6, GCL Yankees 7 - Game 2 - 7 Innings

  • E Blanco 4-4 2B, RBI
  • L. Hiller 2-4 2 2B, 2 RBI, K

My predictions of greatness for Elys Blanco were greatly exaggerated. He hasn't been stealing bases like he did in the DSL and he hasn't been playing full time in the GCL (I don't know if he has been injured or what) but this was a nice bounce back game. Also, Lance Niekro's attempt at knuckle balling is not going well.
