The Atlanta Braves will hold a farewell press conference for Bobby Cox on Wednesday at Turner Field, and salute their former manager one last time. According to David O'Brien of the AJC, "some believe" that the Braves could turn around on Thursday and hold a press conference to announce the hiring of their new manager, presumed to be Fredi Gonzalez. O'Brien notes that there are no playoff games on Thursday, so MLB would not frown on the Braves making a managerial announcement that day.
If indeed the agreement between the Braves and Gonzalez is already in place, as "some believe" it is, then it would make sense for the Braves to go ahead and make the hiring official, a move that would lend stability to an organization that prides itself on its stability and smooth managerial and coaching transitions.
Along those lines this would free up internal managerial candidates, Terry Pendleton, Eddie Perez, Brian Snitker, and David Brundage, to interview elsewhere without waiting around to learn the Braves final decision.
