Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 5/31

Julio Teheran is good. Really, really, really good.
Julio Teheran is good. Really, really, really good.

Gwinnett 3, Indianapolis 1, suspended in 4th

Chris Resop was pitching well and Barbaro Canizares hit his second homer in as many days, but the game was suspended in the middle of the 4th inning due to rain. It will be completed before tomorrow's scheduled game.

Misssissippi4, Montgomery 8

  • E. Duncan 5-5, 2 RBI, .333 AVG
  • S. Diamond 6 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 6 K, 4.40 ERA
  • After throwing great in his last 2 starts, Scott Diamond got rocked around today. The Biscuts were efficient, scoring 5 of the 8 baserunners he allowed. Before this year Ryne Reynoso had very few hiccups on his path toward the Majors, but he's been humbled time and time again this year. After failing to perform as a starter for Gwinnett, he was sent to Mississippi's bullpen and has been a little worse. He gave up 3 runs in 2 innings tonight, though he did strike out 3. Eric Duncan is too good for AA, but if the last 3 years are any indication, he's not good enough for AAA.

    Myrtle Beach 4, Frederick 3

  • D. Nelson 1-4, HR (4), RBI, .242 AVG
  • M. Kennelly 2-3, 2B, .234 AVG
  • L.V. Ware 1-3, HR (1), 2 RBI, .313 AVG
  • J. Teheran 8 IP, 0 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 14 K, 0.43 ERA
  • Forget all this talk about where he should be on prospect lists, if Julio Teheran keeps this up he'll be in the Majors by the end of the year. Ok, I seriously dout that will happen but wow, oh wow he's good. He struck out 14 of the 30 batters he faced tonight and continues his dominance; in 60.1 innings this season with Myrtle Beach and Rome he has a 0.90 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP, and is striking out 10.9 batters per 9 innings while racking up 5.2 Ks per walk. In-sane. Also, my boy LV Ware cracked his first homer with the Pelicans.

    Rome 2, Savannah 5

  • C. Harrilchak 2-3, BB, .289 AVG
  • J. Hanson 1-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, .300 AVG
  • C. Masters 5 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 6 H, 3 K, 1.42 ERA
  • Chris Masters continues to dominate the Sally League, though he only went 5 innings today. Cory Harrilchack spent some time with Myrtle Beach this month and didn't really excell there, but he was great for Rome in May, hitting .329 with a .824 OPS along with 11 RBI and 6 stolen bases. And Jake Hanson continues his good work, hitting his first homer of the season.

    DSL Braves, postponed, rain

Pretty much every game in the Dominican got rained out today.
