Gwinnett 6, Syracuse 3, Game 1

  • M. Young 2-5, .252 AVG
  • G. Blanco 0-2, .264 AVG
  • M. Jones 3-4, 2 2B, HR (5), 3 RBI, .290 AVG
  • B. Canizares 3-4, RBI, .311 AVG
  • T. Gustafson 6 IP, 3 ER, 8 H, 6 BB, 8 K, W (3), 5.55 ERA
  • When I saw Gregor Blanco in this game it confused me, since I was pretty sure he was still with Atlanta, then, after a few frantic minutes of searching the web, I realized that this was the completion of a game from May 8th due to rain in Syracuse. This lead to some odd stats as Mitch Jones picked up his 5th home run, even though he now has 11, and Tim Gustafson picked up his 3rd win, even though he now has 6. I don't know how all this works and I've gone crosseyed from writing it.

    Gwinnett 3, Syracuse 0

  • M. Young 1-2, BB, SB (1), .278 AVG
  • D. Hernandez 1-2, RBI, .500 AVG
  • F. Freeman 1-3, HR (6), RBI, .257 AVG
  • J. Anderson 0-2, .119 AVG
  • J. Reyes 6 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 8 K, W (1), 4.23 ERA
  • S. Marek 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K, SV (3), 1.84 ERA
  • Diory Hernandez makes his season debut in the originally scheduled game, collecting a single, and RBI, and a stolen base while playing a flawless shortstop, though he did leave the game after only 4 innings. It's likely just a precaution since he didn't play in any rehab games before joining AAA. Josh Anderson also gets his first at bats with Gwinnett, his 3rd AAA team of the season. Jo Jo Reyes picked up his first win of the year, fanning 8 in just 6 innings and Steve Marek continued his comeback sesaon, collecting his 3rd save. Between Mississippi and Gwinnett he's 4-0 with 7 saves, a 0.98 ERA, and a 1.16 WHIP in 27.2 innings. Oh, and Freddie Freeman hit a homer. Ho hum.

    Mississippi 17, Carolina 8

  • A. Richardson 3-6, 2 2B, RBI, .284 AVG
  • A. Machado 3-5, HR (1), 3 RBI, .269 AVG
  • W. Cabrera 3-7, 3 2B, 4 RBI, .313 AVG
  • M. Gomez 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 BB, .248 AVG
  • J. Sucre 4-6, 2B, RBI, .556 AVG
  • E. Cordier 5 IP, 7 ER, 10 H, 1 BB, 1 K, W (5), 4.58 ERA, 4-4, 2B, RBI, .333 AVG
  • The Mississippi offense went crazy tonight, scoring 17 runs on 21 hits. They also collected 9 walks, thoroughly trouncing the Mudcats. In just his second game at AA, Jesus Sucre collected 4 hits. Willie Cabrera had 3 hits of his own, all doubles, and drove in 4 runs. But the most impressive offensive performance might have been from starting pitcher Erik Cordier, who was a perfect 4-4, collecting a double and driving in Concepcion Rodriguez on a 3rd inning single. Unfortunately, he gave up too many hits while he was on the mound, allowing 7 earned runs.

    Myrtle Beach 4, Potomac 13

  • My. Jones 1-4, 2B, .441 AVG
  • M. Crim 1.2 IP, 9 R, 6 ER, 8 H, 4 BB, 0 K, 4.44 ERA
  • Matt Crim had little luck tonight, as his defense fell down, racking up 5 errors, and he just let way, way too many men reach base. Myke Jones, who didn't make an error, because he was the DH tonight, continued his hot hitting, collecting another double, his 4th in 7 games with the Pelicans. He has collected at least on hit in every game he's played for the team.

    Rome 6, Charleston 1

  • K. Rose 4-4, SB (17), .276 AVG
  • J. Kreke 2-4, .259 AVG
  • R. Hefflinger, 1-4, RBI, SB (1), .273 AVG
  • C. Bethancourt 2-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI, .245 AVG
  • C. Masters 3 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 1.93 ERA
  • C. Rasmus 4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K, W (4), 2.78 ERA
  • South Atlantic League All-Stars Chris Masters and Cory Rasmus share the game tonight, making sure that both will be rested and ready to represent their division on Tuesday. Rasmus did a little better, keeping the River Dogs off the board and picking up his 4th win. Kyle Rose raps out 4 hits, all singles of course, and he's been on a roll lately, going 9-27 in his last 6 starts. Christian Bethancourt has been hot as well, going 8-26 in his last 7 with 3 doubles in that span.

DSL Braves 1, DSL Royals 2

  • R. Luna 3-4, .419 AVG
  • E. Salcedo 2-3, BB, .286 AVG
  • R. Briceno 6 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 2.25 ERA
  • 19 year old Rafael Briceno pitched well in 6, but picked up the loss because his hitters only got him 1 run. Old Man Luna kept at it, collecting 3 more hits, but in news that matters, Edward Salcedo reached base 3 times. The 18 year old has been solid in his first 15 games as a professional, hitting .286 with a .861 OPS, aided greatly by a .453 OBP.
