Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 6/23

Ramon de los Santos' pinch hit grand slam sealed the win for the GCL Braves.
Ramon de los Santos' pinch hit grand slam sealed the win for the GCL Braves.

Gwinnett 4, Buffalo 5

  • M. Youg 3-4, 3B, .287 AVG
  • F. Freeman 3-4, RBI, .277 AVG
  • M. Jones 2-4, HR (13), 2 RBI, .263 AVG
  • T. Redmond 6 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 6 K, 4.41 ERA
  • M. Dunn 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 0.79 ERA
  • C. Kimbrel 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 K, 1.17 ERA
  • The Baby Mets beat the Baby Braves tonight. It's amazing Gwinnett only scored 4 runs with 12 hits, but the craziest stat of the night is that Craig Kimbrel didn't strike anyone out. Mitch Jones is 6 for his last 8 with 2 homers and 3 RBI. Freddie Freeman extended his hitting streak to 12 games. In that span he's hitting .405 with a .980 OPS to go with a homer and 7 RBI.

    Mississippi 5, Mobile 7

  • M. Gomez 2-4, HR (7), 3 RBI, .253 AVG
  • E. Cordier 5.1 IP, 4 ER, 3 H, 5 BB, 4 K, 4.73 ERA
  • L. Hyde 1.2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 3.38 ERA
  • Maruo Gomez has proven to be a good acquisition, as the Minor League free agent has led the team in RBI while contributing as a steady force in the middle of the lineup. Erik Cordier actually pitched much better in this game than in the last one he pitched, where he got the win despite allowing 7 earned runs in 5 innings, but he couldn't pull out the win tonight.

    Myrtle Beach - Off

The Pelicans start their second half tomorrow in Woodbridge, VA when they face the Potomac Nationals. I'll be at the game, so if you're around the DC area come out, watch some future Atlanta Braves, and we'll talk some baseball.

    Rome - Off

Rome begins their second half tomorrow in Kentucky when they face the Lexington Legends. I won't be anywhere near this game.

    Danville 1, Princeton 0

  • A. Simmons 0-3, RBI, .000 AVG
  • J. Terdoslavich 1-4, 2B, .250 AVG
  • R. Weber 6 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 6 K, W (1), 0.00 ERA
  • R. Pacheco 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K, SV (1), 0.00 ERA
  • Andrelton Simmons didn't get a hit, but he did drive in the D-Braves' lone run tonight, plating Alberto Odreman on a sacrifice fly. After a fantastic showing with the GCL Braves last year, Ryan Weber had little success with Rome this season, with an 0-4 record, 7.33 ERA, and 1.63 WHIP in 23.1 innings, but he gets his Danville career off to a great start, shutting out the P-Rays over 6 frames. He's a talented, if tiny, pitcher, and he's still just 19 years old.

GCL Braves 12, GCL Blue Jays 6

  • M. Lipka 1-5, .231 AVG
  • E. Sanchez 1-2, RBI, 3 BB, .667 AVG
  • B. Drury 2-4, .250 AVG
  • D. Rohm 2-4, 2 RBI, SB (1), .571 AVG
  • K. Fleming 2-4, 3B, RBI, .154 AVG
  • C. Brownsten 2-3, .667 AVG
  • R. de los Santos 1-1, HR (1), 4 RBI, 1.000
  • E. Silva 3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 3 K, 0.00 ERA
  • Ramon de los Santos, in his first at bat of the season, hit a pinch hit grand slam in the 8th inning to seal the win for the Braves. This year's 8th and 9th round picks, Kurt Fleming and David Rohm, added 4 hits and a pair of RBI. Edison Sanchez must be converting to first base, because that's all he's played. He still seems like an exciting player, just 19 with a huge 6'4" frame, and you have to love the 3 walks today, but he's less excitng than he would be if he were staying at the hot corner.
