With all of the farm teams up and running now we have a lot more players to choose from for the Hotsheet this week. That being said it will take some really special performances for me to put any of the guys from Rookie ball on the sheet.
Who's Hot?
-
Matt Young - 15-27 3 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 0K, 2 SB - Matt Young was absolutely crazy-go-nuts over the past week as he hit everything in sight and even flashed a little more doubles power than normal. At the end of the night on June 20th his batting average was .276. Right now he is hitting .306. Not a bad week at all.
-
Willie Cabrera - 10-22 4 2B, 3 RBI, 4 BB, 0K, 2 SB - Cabrera makes this list for putting up a very similar line to Matt Young. Willie is currently 5th in the Southern League is batting and 5th in doubles even though he missed 12 games.
-
Michael Dunn, Craig Kimbrel, Stephen Marek - 12.1IP 3H 0R 4BB 18K - Dunn and Kimbrel are the best 8-9 combo in the minors right now but we forget about Marek who was dominant in AA and then struggled for a while in Gwinnett but has been lights out in June and has found his strike out pitch again.
-
Carlos Perez - 10IP 7H 2R 8BB 8K - Those aren't necessarily the prettiest numbers but Perez could be a stud for us sooner than people think. Still just 18 years old he has a projectable left-handed frame He has been a little lucky so far, but don't be surprised if he gets that hang of things and gets a late season promotion like Teheran did last year.
Honorable Mention: Freddie Freeman, Wes Timmons, Gwinnett; Jesus Sucre, Scott Diamond, Brandon Beachy, Mike Minor, Mississippi; Matt Crim, Myrtle Beach
Who's Not?
- JoJo Reyes - 11IP 17H 13R 5BB 10K - Poor JoJo has really fallen. In years past he could at least get AAA hitters out but now it doesn't even appear he can do that effectively any more. His peripherals are still solid 34K/10BB/36.1IP but he is still giving up too many hits, especially home runs.
- Jacob Thompson - 3.1IP 7H 8R 3BB 2HR 1K - Thompson (and Richard Sullivan) has been pretty terrible all season long. He is giving up tons of hits, not striking out anyone and even though he is a groundball pitcher he is giving up an alarming amount of HRs.
- Matt Lipka - 3-20 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 3K, SB - Lipka signed quick for Atlanta and has been in just about all of the GCL games but aside from his first game (2-3 2B, RBI) his offense has been nonexistent. I am not worried about him long term but this was a rocky first week to his career.
- Robinson Lopez - 1IP 4H 5R 1BB 0K - Lopez has been a revelation this season for Rome but he has been a bit inconsistent at times. Some nights he comes out and dominates and scouts present say he has the best stuff out of any Braves farm hand, other nights you get lines like the one up above.
Dishonorable Mention: Todd Remdond, Tim Gustafson, Gwinnett; Eric Cordier, Mississippi; JJ Hoover, Myrtle Beach; Kyle Rose, Chris Masters, Rome
