Jordan Schafer is starting to heat up a little.
Jordan Schafer is starting to heat up a little.

Gwinnett 3, Scranton-Wilkes Barre 2

  • J. Schafer 2-3, BB, .219 AVG
  • W. Timmons 2-3, BB, .258 AVG
  • M. Jones 1-3, 2B, BB, .243 AVG
  • M. Young 1-4, 3B, RBI, .251 AVG
  • T. Gustafson 6 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 2 K, W (5), 5.75 ERA
  • M. Dunn 0.2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K, SV (3), 0.70 ERA
  • Tim Gustafson had his best start of the season, since his previous best apperance, where he threw 6 shutout innings on May 14th, was a relief appearance. Mike Dunn continues to impress, collecting his 3rd save and getting both of his outs on strikeouts. Jordan Schafer is 6 for his last 17 with a double and 3 stolen bases in his last 4 games.

    Mississippi 3, Montgomery 6

  • A. Richardson 2-4, RBI, BB, .385 AVG
  • D. Linares 2-4, .255 AVG
  • O. Merchado 2-4, RBI, .281 AVG
  • J. Thompson 6 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 1 BB, 4 K, 6.46 ERA
  • J. Abreu 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 0.77 ERA
  • It's possible that the Braves made a mistake by releasing Antoan Richardson out of Spring Training. In 7 games with Mississippi, he's hitting .385 with a .818 OPS. Of course, he could just be hot right now. Donell Linares is hot right now, with 5 hits in his lat 16 at bats, including a pair of doubles and a triple. In 8 games with Myrtle Beach Juan Abreu had a 8.22 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP in 15.1 innings. In 10 games with Mississippi, covering 11.2 innings, he has a 0.77 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. That's as drastic a difference as you're going to find.

    Myrtle Beach 1, Salem 2

  • M. Jones 2-4, .241 AVG
  • S. Sime 1-3, 2B, E (5), .316 AVG
  • J. Sucre 1-3, 2B, .214 AVG
  • R. Delgado 6.2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 8 K, 2.50 ERA
  • Randall Delgado picks up the loss, despite only allowing 1 earned run. He did allow more baserunners than he had in any of his previous 7 starts, but there's nothing wrong with 6.2 innings, 1 earned run, and 8 strikeouts. Mike Jones collected a pair of hits off his previous team, but the Pelicans didn't get on base much otherwise.

    Rome 5, Augusta 3

  • K. Rose 2-4, RBI, CS (17), .276 AVG
  • C. Harrilchak 2-4, 2 2B, .295 AVG
  • M. Jones 1-3, HR (5), 2 RBI, E (21), .257 AVG
  • C. Rasmus 6 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 5 K, 2.57 ERA
  • D. Hale 3 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K, W (1), 6.36 ERA
  • Things have been going good for Rome lately, and tonight they got good pitching and good hitting. Cory Rasmus continues to pitch well, giving up just 1 earned run in 6 innings, a big improvement over the 4 he gave up in his last start. And David Hale picked up his first win of the season, pitching the last 3 innings of the game. He's made 4 relief appearances this season, and all but one of them have been very good. Kyle Rose collects a few hits, but gets caught stealing yet again. His lack of extra base power has become an issue as well, as his slugging percentage hangs at a lowly .310.

DSL Braves 5, DSL Angels 0

  • R. Luna 1-4, RBI, BB, .250 AVG
  • E. Salcedo 0-3, 2 BB, E (1), .125 AVG
  • A. Nunez 1-4, RBI, .111 AVG
  • J. Saldeno 5 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 5 K, 0.00 ERA
  • 18 year old Jesus Saldeno only allowed 2 baserunners in 5 innings, and though the Braves only got 5 hits in the game, 3 Angels errors helped them secure the win. Fellow 18 year old Ronald Luna, who is a shortstop by trade but DHed in this game, had an RBI single and a walk.
