Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 6/9

Gwinnett 1, Norfolk 3

  • M. Young 3-4 2B, .260 Avg
  • W. Timmons 2-4 RBI, K, .265 Avg
  • F. Freeman 0-4 2K, .250 Avg
  • J. Schafer 0-4 K, .212 Avg
  • T. Gustafson 6IP 6H 3R 1BB 6K
  • S. Marek 1IP 0R 0H 0BB 2K 2.38 ERA

Matt Young has a second consecutive 3 hit game but he was basically the only guy contributing on offense. Freddie Freeman and Jordan Schafer are both in small slumps and I wonder if Freeman at least isn't still harboring some lingering issues with his knee. Tim Gustafson had his second straight solid start and was backed up by strong bullpen work from Stephen Marek and Mariano Gomez.

Mississippi 8, West Tennessee 4

  • A. Richardson 2-4 HBP, .333 Avg
  • D. Linares 2-5 2B, .261 Avg
  • C. Rodriguez 2-4 RBI, BB, .227 Avg

I did not realize that Mississippi was on a 7 game losing streak and this was just their second win this month. Yikes. Just about everyone collected a hit for the Braves in this one with Antoane Richardson and Donell Linares getting on base at the top of the lineup for the middle of the order guys to drive them in. Jake Thompson had a failry effective start and generated a bunch of ground balls like he and Sullivan are wont to do.

Winston-Salem 2, Myrtle Beach 3

  • C. Miles 2-4 2 RBI, K, .254 Avg
  • R. Delgado 6IP 4H 1R 2BB 7K 2.42 ERA

Randall Delgado did what he does best which is dominate opposing hitters. He hasn't given up more than 3 earned in any start since April 24 along with going at least 6 innings in all but one of those and striking out 6+ in all but two since that date. He has been pretty fantastic.

Rome - Off

DSL Braves 5, DSL Angels 1

  • H. Garcia 2-5 .321 Avg
  • E. Salcedo 1-5 .269 Avg
  • A. Alcantara 2-4 2B, .355 Avg
  • C. Franco 3-5 3B, 3 RBI, K, .281 Avg
  • J. Saldeno 5IP 2H 0R 0BB 6K

Just for reference all of the guys listed above were born in the 90s. Jesus Saldeno now has pitched 10 innings with 11K and just 3 hits allowed. I dub him this season's Andy Otero. Garcia was moved up in the order from 8th all the way to 2nd and he collected another multi-hit game. Edward Salcedo hasn't really started hitting yet, but everything else has been solid so far.
