Tim Hudson, Jason Heyward, Martin Prado, Brian McCann and Omar Infante are all All Stars. That's right. Omar Infante was selected to the All Star Game. No Troy Glaus or Billy Wagner though, but we can't complain with 5 guys there already.
Tim Hudson was selected by manager Charlie Manuel and will likely pitch an inning in the game. Great to see Hudson getting recognition for his awesome season. I'm sure FOX will be preparing something to tell everyone how lucky he is.
Jason Heyward finished in 3rd in NL OF voting, but probably won't play unless his thumb is back to 100%. As a 20-year old rookie, Jason collected a ridiculous 2,784,419 votes. The fans love The Jay Hey Kid.
Martin Prado will be the starting 2nd baseman for the National League. Chase Utley won the vote by a landslide, but with his thumb injury will keep him out of the game. Our utility man from 2008 and 2009 is now (probably) the leadoff man for the 2010 NL All Star team. That's neat.
Brian McCann will be the backup catcher to a less-deserving player for the 4th straight year. Yadier Molina won the vote by about 100,000 votes, and a large part of that has to do with the Cardinals drawing 40,000+ every night. Regardless of the voting, it's great to see Brian make the team again.
Finally, Omar Infante makes the team. Charlie Manuel....you're not such a bad guy after all. Omar has been incredible off the bench this season and I imagine this is more of a tactical selection more than anything. I can't imagine a bench player better than Infante and he's the most deserving of anyone to go.
There isn't much now, but check this page throughout the day for updates, quotes from the players and more.
Congrats to all of our guys. Represent the ATL well. We know you will.
UPDATE #1: Billy Wagner is on the Final Vote Ballot. Go vote!
