Braves Sign Minor League Center Fielder Gavin Dickey

The Atlanta Braves have expanded their center field depth and increased their minor league speed by purchasing the contract of Independent league outfielder Gavin Dickey. The Braves have had good luck with former Mariners pitchers, so they'll try their luck with a former Mariners outfielder. Dickey is a former 12th-round pick of Seattle in the 2006 draft, and a former Florida Gator, playing both baseball and football, where he served as a wide receiver and backup quarterback. He played for two and a half years in the M's organization and made it as high as double-A.

He looks like a low risk player who still has some good tools. We've signed quite a bit of Independent League talent this off-season. It will be interesting to watch how these guys do returning to the minor leagues.
