Here is the second set of scouting reports from day two at the 2011 MLB Draft. The Atlanta Braves continued to select college players, especially college relievers, though they did sneak in a few high school players. The trend for the Braves of taking a lot of college relievers is one that is helping them stock their bullpen from within their system, and it seems to be one they will continue to focus on.
Seth Moranda, IF - Round 11
The first high school player taken by the Braves in the 2011 draft. Moranda is a two-way player at Buchanan High School in Clovis, California. He is slated to attend Fresno State this year, so the Braves will have to sign him away from that commitment.
Matt Chaffee, LHP - Round 12
A hard worker who has come back from a torn labrum. He throws a fastball in the low-90s, with a good curve and average change. He's a reliever who has been a bit of a late comer.
Tony Mueller, CF - Round 13
A cold-weather prospect from Wisconsin who attended college in Minnesota. He has plus speed and an above average throwing arm in center. He profiles a bit like Jordan Schafer, though with less power, and more skill at bunting, getting on base, and stealing bases. He continues a good trend by the Braves of adding more speed and athleticism to their organization. He should be a quick sign.
Navery Moore, RHP - Round 14
Ranked as the 113th-best prospect in the country by Baseball America, though he went undrafted until the Braves selected him in the 14th round. As Vanderbilt's closer his fastball has good life in the mid-90s. He had Tommy John surgery in high school, and that limited his appearances early in college. Teams may have been scared away by the lack of innings he's thrown, and the Braves may have to go over slot to get Moore to sign. He has a closer's mentality on the mound, and could project as a closer in the Majors, though he's a pretty safe bet to at least be a setup man. @moorenc
John Cornely, RHP - Round 15
Another college reliever. This senior from Wofford College brings swing-and-miss stuff to the mound, though he needs to work on control. A solid pick at this spot in the draft. @J_Corn_toss_19
A.J. Holland, RHP - Round 16
He didn't have very impressive college stats as a starting pitcher at Saint Joseph's University, so the Braves must like his arm
Gus Schlosser, RHP - Round 17
An unranked college senior from Florida, he doesn't seem to have been a draft prospect on anyone's radar (except the Braves). Looks like a polished finesse-type right-hander.
Greg Ross, RHP - Round 18
This college senior from Frostburg State in Maryland certainly racked up the awards this year. He was named the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year, the Mid-Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year, selected to the CAC First Team, and to the American Baseball Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team. He put up impressive numbers, including holding opposing batters to a .196 batting average.
Troy Snitker, C - Round 19
The son of Braves third base coach Brian Snitker. Troy is a catcher at North Georgia College. He hit .340 his senior year with decent power. He's just catching depth, and probably a future coach.
Carlos Rodriguez, LHP - Round 20
A high school pitcher from Hawaii (wow a high school pitcher, someone must have stolen the drafting button from DeMacio). He touches 90mph with his fastball, and has some decent secondary offerings. He's committed to Oregon State, and as a kid who needs to fill out more he will likely go the college route and raise his draft profile in a few years.
