The Atlanta Braves have hired Major League veteran Randy Ready to manage the AAA Gwinnett Braves in 2013. Ready replaces Dave Brundage, who had been the Braves AAA manager for the last 6 seasons. Brundage was hired by the Phillies last week to manage their AAA team.
The 52 year old Ready played 13 seasons in the Major Leagues, and the utility man mostly played second base, third base, and left field while hitting .259 with a .745 OPS, 107 doubles, 40 homers, and 239 RBI in 2,488 plate appearances from 1983 to 1995, playing for the Phillies, Padres, Brewers, Athletics, Brewers, and Expos. He spent 2012 as the hitting coordinator for the Rangers, and before that was the Major League hitting coach for the Padres from 2009 to 2011.
Ready's Minor League managerial experience has all been in the Padres organization, and includes stints with Short Season Oneonta from 2002 to 2003, Low A Fort Wayne from 2004 to 2006, AA San Antonio in 2007, and AAA Portland in 2008 and 2009 before joining the Major League coaching staff. He was the New York-Penn League Manager Of The Year in 2002, won the Texas League Championship in 2007, and Baseball America named him the Best Manager Prospect in the Pacific Coast League in 2008.
