Braves Winning Streak Ends With 6-1 Loss To Mets

Bye-bye, winning streak. Hope to see you again in the near future.

Tommy Hanson took a one-hitter into the sixth inning before things fell apart, and the Mets won their fourth straight over the Braves 6-1, ending Atlanta's five-game winning streak.

The Braves took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on Jack Wilson's RBI groundout, but the Mets tied the score in the third when Tommy Hanson's errant pickoff of Kirk Nieuwenhuis led to Ruben Tejada's RBI groundout. Wilson almost got the lead back for Hanson in the fifth, hitting a drive deep to left, but Jason Bay denied him of his first home run since 2009.

Both Hanson and Dillon Gee were masterful through the first five innings. In the sixth, however, Atlanta's strategy to prevent a rally backfired. With two outs and Tejada at second, Hanson intentionally walked the hot-hitting David Wright in order to face the struggling Ike Davis. Five curveballs later, Davis hits a three-run homer to give the Mets a 4-1 lead. A wild pitch by Hanson in the seventh upped the score to 5-1 while his offense squandered a scoring chance in the bottom of the inning.

Four of the five runs scored against Hanson were earned; he struck out four and walked two in seven innings. Jason Bay added a home run in the ninth off Livan Hernandez.

Dillon Gee, on the other hand, continued to give the Braves fits. He struck out five in seven innings with only one walk while allowing four hits, two of them to Jason Heyward. The win was Gee's first of the season and third in eight starts against the Braves.
