David Filak and Kyle Kubitza both stuffed the stat sheet for Rome and Joey Terdoslavich had his first three hit game in AAA. Gwinnett won a wild extra innings game, while the offenses stagnated in Mississippi and Lynchburg.

Gwinnett won a wild one, ceding the lead in the top of the 12th only to walk-off in the bottom. Erik Cordier had a forgettable start, giving up 5 hits and 5 walks across 5 innings, and after 9 innings the score was knotted at two. Adam Russell coughed up the lead in the top half of the 12th, but Gwinnett rallied in the bottom half. JC Boscan drove in Greg Paiml with an RBI single to tie the game at 3, and after being bunted over to second, Drew Sutton plated Boscan with a walk off RBI double. After seeing his hitting streak snapped last night, Joey Terdoslavich notched three hits for the first time at AAA and even stole a base, his second of the year.

Mississippi Braves 1, Jackson Generals 7

A very forgettable game for the M-Braves, who only mustered three hits against the Jackson Generals. Ian Gac, fresh off being named the Southern League's Hitter of the Week, knocked in the only run with an RBI double in the first inning. He also took a pair of walks, and his OBP now sits at a mind-boggling .491. Andrelton Simmons went 0-4 on the day, but walked and stole a base, his 3rd steal of the year. After two stellar starts, Zeke Spruill got absolutely shelled, as the Generals reached base 16 times against him in 6 innings. Mark Lamm came on and pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief, but by then the damage had been done.

Lynchburg Hillcats 0, Salem Red Sox 5

Offensive ineptitude was also the story in Lynchburg tonight, as the Hillcats' normally potent offense managed only 4 hits against the Red Sox. Cody Martin started for the Hillcats and was very hittable, though he managed to minimize the damage by notching 7 punchouts across his 5 innings of work. The right-hander has put up great strikeout numbers so far on the young season, with 14 strikeouts and only 3 walks over his 11 innings of work. Chasen Shreve also pitched 2 scoreless innings, and for the year he has struck out 9 and walked none over 7 innings. The Lynchburg defense didn't exactly help their pitchers out either, as Salcedo registered his second error of the year. Nick Ahmed also made two errors leading to two unearned runs, and on the year the young shortstop now has 3 errors in 10 games.
Gus Schlosser will start for the Hillcats tomorrow in the second game of their series with the Red Sox.
Savannah Sand Gnats 6, Rome Braves 5 (12 innings)

David Filak and Kyle Kubitza were the story today in Rome, but their gaudy numbers weren't enough to lead the R-Braves to victory. Filak got the start, and the knuckle curve must have been dancing, as the young right-hander whiffed a whopping 11 Sand Gnats in 5 innings of work. To put that in perspective, of the 15 outs Filak recorded, 11 were by strikeout. Filak now has an impressive 22/5 K/BB ratio in 15 innings of work. Ryne Harper pitched 2.2 innings in relief, striking out 6 and bringing his strikeout total to 13 in 6.1 innings of work, albeit with 5 walks as well. On the offensive side of things, Kyle Kubitza continued his hot streak, rapping out his third triple and third homer of the year. He drove in 4, accounting for almost all of the R-Braves' offense, and finished a double short of the cycle. In his last 5 games, Kubitza is hitting .409 with 6 runs, 7 RBI, and 4 extra base hits. Unfortunately, Kubitza didn't get much help from the rest of the lineup, and Rome fell in the 12th when John Cornely served up a game-winning homer.

Hey all, my name is Dan Simpson, and if you haven't noticed by now, I'll be splitting the Minor League Recaps with CB this year. I'm excited to be on board here at Talking Chop, where I've been a member since 2008. I've spent my entire life in North Carolina, and some of my earliest memories were lazy summer afternoons watching the Braves on TBS with my dad and grandfather. I'm a recent graduate of Duke University, where I majored in Public Policy and History with a minor in Statistics. When I'm not working, I love following politics (though I'll never talk about it on a sports blog!), reading, playing video games, and of course sports! I'm a fan of the Braves, the Panthers (NFL), the Hurricanes (NHL), and Duke sports. The greatest sports moment of my life had to be my Blue Devils winning the National Championship in 2010 while I was still in school there (Yes, Gordon Hayward's shot still gives me shivers anytime I see it). A very close second was Justin Williams' empty-netter in Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup finals, and getting to watch Rod Brind-Amour hoist Lord Stanley's Cup. I look forward to writing for you guys!
