Braves Hammer Three Homers In Big Win Over Mets

The Braves offense busted out in a big way, overcoming a shaky outing by Jair Jurrjens and beating the Mets 14-6 to take the series.

The two teams traded home runs in the second inning, Ike Davis hitting a solo shot and Juan Francisco belting a two-run homer off R.A. Dickey. In the third, David Wright continued his good hitting, giving the Mets the lead back with a two-run double.

The Braves, however, would not be down long as they plated four runs in the bottom of the third. With two on and no outs, Martin Prado doubled home both runners. One out later, Dan Uggla stepped in against Dickey, hitless in 24 previous at-bats against him. Uggla changed all that on the first pitch he saw, smashing it for a two-run homer and a 6-3 Braves lead.

The Mets would not go quietly, though. After a scoreless fourth inning, they put the first two on against Jurrjens in the fifth before David Wright again delivered a run-scoring hit. That would signal the end of the day for Jurrjens, who yielded seven hits and four runs in only four innings. He also issued four walks, three of them in the third inning, with only two strikeouts.

The Braves returned the favor in the bottom of the fifth, forcing Dickey from the game when Freddie Freeman hit an opposite-field two-run homer, his first of the season.

Cristhian Martinez tossed two effective innings, allowing only one run on three hits. The Braves padded their lead in the sixth with run-scoring hits from Chipper Jones and Michael Bourn against Bobby Parnell, and again in the seventh with hits from Bourn and Matt Diaz off lefty Tim Byrdak.

Atlanta's final two runs came in the eighth on Freeman's sacrifice fly and a double by David Ross. Livan Hernandez tossed the final two innings, allowing one run on two hits in sealing the victory.

Jason Heyward extended his hitting streak to eight games with an eighth-inning triple and Chad Durbin ended his streak of futility with a scoreless, yet exciting, seventh inning.
