Atlanta Braves Promote Evan Gattis To AA Mississippi

After a month of dominating the Carolina League for the Lynchburg Hillcats, the Braves have promoted Evan Gattis to AA Mississippi. The 25 year old catcher leaves the Carolina League as its leader in hits (30), homers (9), RBI (29), total bases (64), and OPS (1.289), along with a .385 batting average, a .468 OBP, and a .821 slugging percentage.

The Braves drafted Gattis in the 23rd round of the 2010 draft after he spent just one year playing for Texas-Permian Basin following a four year hiatus from the game. While playing for Rome in 2011, he led the team in home runs (22), RBI (71), slugging (.601), and OPS (.601), while playing in just 88 games. A catcher by trade, Gattis has played 3 games in left field this week, a move that will hopefully speed up his ascent to the Majors. With Mississippi, he'll split time between left field, designated hitter, and share catching duties with top prospect Christian Bethancourt.
