Teheran And Durango Lead Gwinnett To Victory While Salcedo Leads Come From Behind Win In Saturday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

Julio Teheran had another great start and Luis Durango extended his hitting streak for Gwinnett, Edward Salcedo drove in the tying run for Lynchburg in the bottom of the eighth, and Felix Marte had solid day in a losing effort for Rome.

Julio Teheran had another great start, tying his season high with 7 strikeouts while only walking 1 and allowing 1 run over 7 innings. Over his last 3 starts, he has a 1.13 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and only 2 walks in 16 innings. In 32 games at AAA over the last 2 seasons, the 21 year old has a 2.54 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, 7.6 K/9, 3 BB/9, and 2.5 K/BB in 177.1 innings. Jaye Chapman picked up his third save, striking out 2 over a scoreless inning. The 24 year old is having a fine season, with a 1.56 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP, and 9.9 K/9 in 17.1 innings over 14 appearances. Luis Durango extended his hitting streak to 7 games, and during that span, he's gone 10-25 with 2 doubles, 5 RBI, 4 walks, and 5 steals. Ernesto Mejia was walked, hit by a pitch, and, in his lone official at bat, homered, his fifth of the year. In his last 10 games, the 26 year old is hitting .303 with a .924 OPS, 2 doubles, 2 homers, 9 RBI, and 3 walks.

Today the Braves signed veteran outfielder Felix Pie to a Minor League contract, and he will join Gwinnett tomorrow. The 27 year old left handed hitter and thrower has a .249 average and .673 OPS over 1051 plate appearances in parts of 2 season with the Cubs and 3 seasons with the Orioles. Ranked the number 27 overall prospect in baseball prior to the 2006 season, he had been playing with the Camden Riversharks in the independent Atlantic League this season after being released at the end of Spring Training by the Indians.

Mississippi Braves - Postponed, Rain

Mississippi and Huntsville will play a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon, with Jose Lugo and Sean Gilmartin scheduled to start.

Edward Salcedo drove in the tying run with a single in the bottom of the eighth, and Chris Garcia followed him by driving in the go ahead run with a groundout. Salcedo also had a RBI groundout and another single earlier in the game, making him 7-24 in his last 6 games. Of course, Salcedo also committed his 13th error of the season, putting him second in the league behind Myrtle Beach shortstop Odubel Herrera, who has committed 17 errors. Braeden Schlehuber drove in a pair of runs with a double, and in his last 2 games, he's gone 3-6 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. JR Graham had one of his worst starts of the season, allowing 11 hits and 4 runs, 3 earned, over 6.1 innings. Despite the rough start, at least by his standards, Graham still has a 2.11 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP over his last 3 starts. Chasen Shreve picked up his second win of the year with 1.2 scoreless innings, his fifth straight scoreless appearance. Juan Jaime picked up a save in his third straight appearance, striking out both batters he faced.

Felix Marte had a pair of hits, including a double, and in his last 3 games, he's gone 4-12. The 21 year old also struck out twice today, and he's striking out in 42% of his at bats, leading the league with 49 strikeouts in 33 games. Tony Mueller snapped a 0-12 slump over his last 3 games with a 2 single day. Greg Ross made his first start of the season and took the loss, allowing 4 runs over 4 innings. Through 11.2 innings in 5 appearances, the 22 year old has a 9.26 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP, but is averaging 10.8 strikeouts per 9 innings. Bryam Garcia made his season deubt tonight, allowing an unearned run over 2.2 innings, striking out 4 in the process. The 23 year old was signed last year as a non-drafted free agent out of Florida International University, and posted a 6.08 ERA, a 2.03 WHIP, and 11.5 K/9 in 13.1 innings in the GCL in 2011.
