Chipper goes to one knee after being hit by a batted ball in the third inning of last night's game.

The Atlanta Braves rolled to an impressive win over the Tamp Bay Rays last night, but in the third inning a batted ball ricocheted off the left shin of Chipper Jones. He went down, was attended to by the trainer, but stayed in the game, until he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. Here is the AJC after the game:

"We’re grinding out at-bats, and we’ve done that really well this year," said Chipper Jones, who left in the eighth inning with a bruised and badly swollen contusion above his left ankle and is likely to miss the remaining two games of his last scheduled series at Tampa Bay.

He smiled and said, "It’s safe to say my career in Tampa is over."

If this was truly his last game at the Trop, then the Rays should breathe a sigh of relief. Chipper has hit .352/.400/.685 in Tampa for his career.

But something tells me that Chipper will find a way to pinch hit over the next two games, or accept a DH assignment on Sunday. He apparently has a lot of locals showing up to see him. Chipper grew up and went to school across the state in Jacksonville.
