Julio Teheran, Dimasther Delgado, and Navery Moore had great starts, and Luis Durango, Chris Garcia, Kyle Kubitza, William Beckwith, and Will Skinner all had great days at the plate as the Braves picked up a Minor League sweep.

Gwinnett Braves 3, Rochester Red Wings 1

  • Luis Durango CF 3-5, 2B, RBI, SB (21), .273 AVG
  • Felix Pie RF 2-5, .167 AVG
  • Ernesto Mejia 1B 1-3, BB, .305 AVG
  • Jose Yepez C 2-3, BB, .254 AVG

  • Cory Gearrin 1 IP, 0 R,0 H, 0 BB, 1 K, SV (4), 1.05 ERA

Julio Teheran picked up the win today, allowing just 1 run over 7 innings, striking out 3 and walking 2. His last start was a poor one, as he allowed 4 runs in just 2.2 innings, but overall he's been solid in May, with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP in 25.2 innings. Cory Gearrin picked up a save in his second straight appearance, striking out 1 in a perfect inning. He's made 4 straight scoreless appearances, striking out 10 over 7 innings in that span and righties are hitting just .085 against him this season. Ernesto Mejia extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and during that span he's hit .436 with a 1.297 OPS. Luis Durango had a 3 hit day that included a double and his 21st stolen base of the season, which leads the league. After going 3-25 in his first 8 games, Felix Pie had a pair of hits today. Jose Yepez also had a pair of hits, and in his last 3 games he's gone 4-7 with a walk.

The G-Braves and Red Wings will take a day off on Wednesday before they begin another four game series on Thursday, this time in Gwinnett. Yohan Flande is scheduled to start the opener.

Mississippi Braves - Off

Zeke Spruill will start the first game of a five game series against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos beginning Thursday night. Today Evan Gattis was placed on the DL because of a wrist injury he suffered from being hit a few days ago.

Lynchburg Hillcats 3, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 2

  • Nick Ahmed SS 1-4, 2 RBI, SB (14), E (10), .258 AVG
  • Chris Garcia 1B 1-4, HR (4), RBI, .336 AVG
  • Dimasther Delgado 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 3 K, W (2), 4.15 ERA
  • Matt Chaffee 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 5.93 ERA

  • Juan Jaime 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 K, SV (7), 4.41 ERA

Dimasther Delgado had one of his best starts of the season, allowing 2 runs over 6 innings while striking out 3. It was a nice comeback for him after he had allowed 4 runs in 4 innings in his last start. It was also impressive that he didn't walk anyone after allowing 8 walks in his last 10 innings. Matt Chaffee made his third straight scoreless appearance, striking out 2 in 3.1 innings during that span. Andrew Wilson pitched a scoreless appearance his first game with the team since the beginning of the month, with 2 game stint in AA and some time spent in Extended Spring Training coming between the two appearances. Juan Jaime struck out 2 and picked up his seventh save of the year. In his last 7 games, the 24 year old righty has allowed 1 run in 6.2 innings, striking out 12 and picking up 5 saves. Nick Ahmed drove in a pair of runs with a sixth inning single and stole his team leading 14th base. In his last 4 games, he's gone 5-16 with a double, 3 RBI, a walk, and a steal. Chris Garcia hit his fourth homer of the year, and he's having a fine season for the Hillcats, hitting .336 with a .450 OBP, a .943 OPS, 10 doubles, 4 homers, and 24 RBI in 140 at bats.

JR Graham will take on the Pelicans tomorrow.

Ryne Harper picked up a save in his third straight appearance, striking out 1 in a perfect inning. He's made 4 consecutive scoreless appearances, striking out 4 in 4.2 innings.

Rome Braves 6, August Greenjackets 2, Game 2

  • Kyle Kubitza 1-2, 2 RBI, BB, SB (7), .259 AVG
  • Will Skinner RF 1-1, 2 BB, .250 AVG
  • William Beckwith 1B 1-3, RBI, .303 AVG
  • Ryan Weber 4 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 2 K, 2.04 ERA
  • Wilson Rivera 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K, W (1), 3.95 ERA
  • Ian Thomas 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K, SV (1), 0.00 ERA

Kyle Kubitza snapped a 0-12 skid by combining to go 3-5 with a triple, 2 RBI, and a walk in the doubleheader. After a nice April that saw him hit .280 with a .977 OPS, he's struggled in May, hitting .230 with a .700 OPS. He's shown a ton of patience at the plate, walking in 15% of his plate appearances, but he's also been a free swinger, striking out in 34% of his at bats. Will Skinner also had a nice day, combining to go 3-4 with 2 doubles, a RBI, and 2 walks in the 2 games. William Beckwith was 3-6 with a RBI and a stolen base in the 2 games, and since returning from Extended Spring Training, he's hit .300 with a .864 OPS, a double, a homer, and 5 RBI. Ryan Weber made his first start of the year, allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, over 4 innings. He's pitched well for Rome, with a 2.04 ERA, a 0.74 WHIP, 8.7 K/9, 1 BB/9, and 8.5 K/BB in 17.2 innings. Of course, he was pitching well for Lynchburg also, with a 2.70 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, 8 K/9, 0.9 BB/9, and 9 K/BB in 10 innings. Wilson Rivera picked up the win with a scoreless fifth inning, and the former outfielder has racked up the strikeouts this year, averaging 11.8 K/9, but he's also been wild, averaging 7.2 BB/9. Ian Thomas picked up the save, striking out 2 over 2 perfect innings. It was not only Thomas' first appearances in the Braves organization, but his first appearance in affiliated baseball. The 25 year old lefty played collegiately at Virginia Commonwealth, then spent 3 seasons with the independent Winnipeg Goldeyes, recording a 11-5 record, a 2.03 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, 10.4 K/9, and 3.6 BB/9 in 128.1 innings over 82 appearances, all in relief. This season he joined the York Revolution, which plays in a more advanced independent league than Winnipeg, and posted a 0.96 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, 11.6 K/9, and 4.8 BB/9 in 9.1 innings over 7 relief appearances before being signed by the Braves.

Greg Ross will start for the R-Braves tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM.
