Both Yohan Flande and Gary Moran turned in strong starts tonight, and while Flande got a win, Moran was let down by his defense. Stefan Gartrell had a two hit game while Keenan Wiley did a little bit of everything tonight.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs 0, Gwinnett Braves 4
- Stefan Gartrell, RF: 2-4, R, .263
- Joey Terdoslavich, 3B: 1-4, R, RBI, .194
- Josh Wilson, SS: 1-3, R, .234
- Yohan Flande, SP: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 3.44 ERA
- Cory Gearrin, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 0.91 ERA
The good Yohan Flande from the beginning of the year showed up tonight and tossed a gem against the Phillies AAA affiliate Lehigh Valley. Flande went 7 innings, allowing only 3 hits and a walk while striking out 5. Over his last 14 innings, Flande has only allowed 8 hits, 2 walks, and 1 run - not too shabby at all. Cory Gearrin kept on doing Cory Gearrin things, tossing a perfect 9th. He should really replace Medlen in the bullpen. Gwinnett only mustered 5 hits all game, but somehow found a way to string together 4 runs. Stefan Gartrell was 2-4 and was the only G-Brave to have a multi-hit game. Joey Terdoslavich went 1-4 and is now 5 for his last 19, which is something positive.
Eric Junge goes tommorow for Gwinnett
Montgomery Biscuits 4, Mississippi Braves 1
- Keenan Wiley, RF: 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB, SB(9), .309
- Todd Conningham, CF: 2-4, 2B, .303
- Alden Carrithers, LF: 1-3, 2B, R, .324
- Gary Moran, SP: 7 IP, 6 H, 4 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 4 K, 2.82 ERA
Gary Moran was dealing tonight and was shutting down the Biscuits until the 4th inning when his defense collapsed behind him. 2 errors led to 4 unearned runs scoring, and that would prove to be the difference. Moran threw very well, allowing only 7 baserunners across 7 innings while striking out 4. Moran takes the loss despite allowing no earned runs (pitcher W-L is silly) and dropping his already excellent ERA down to 2.82. Behind him, the M-Braves were only able to muster 5 hits. Keenan Wiley reached based twice with a double and a walk, the former driving in Mississippi's lone run. Wiley also stole his 9th base of the year. Andrelton Simmons, who was just named the Southern League Hitter of the Week, went hitless in 4 at-bats.
Luis Avilan takes the mound tomorrow against the Biscuits.
