St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves Series Recap

Crazy how one series can change things. After game one agains the Cardinals on Monday, the Braves had lost eight-games in a row and were in the N.L. East basement. Now, after two straight wins to finish out the series, Atlanta is back to only two games back of the Nationals. Notes from the series:

Welcome back Freddie Freeman. After missing four games due to eye issues, Freeman got his new spectacles and went 3-5 with a home run, a double, three runs batted in, and two runs scored.

Matt Holliday had the Braves number all series long. He went 6-12 with four runs scored, two walks, and a double.

Michael Bourn hit his fifth home run of the season in game two. He entered the season with 13 career home runs, and his previous single season high was five in 2008 with Houston. Scott Boras is seeing plenty of dollar signs attached to Bourn's great season.

The pressure was on for Randall Delgado, and he was so-so in his start in game two. With Kris Medlen down in AAA being stretched out as a starter, he'll replace either Delgado or Mike Minor when he returns. Delgado allowed three runs in 5.1 innings, with six hits, three walks, and one strikeout. The competition between the two to see who stays up will be very interesting.

Lance Lynn was really good in game one of the series. Lynn struck out eight while walking only one in seven innings of work. He allowed five hits and two earned runs.

Of course, roster moves were the big news that happened during the series. Medlen is down, Jose Constanza is up and had four hits in his first two games. After the series finale, Tyler Pastornicky was sent down to Triple-A Gwinnett, and was replaced by slick-fielding shortstop Andrelton Simmons.

The Simmons era begins Friday in Washington against Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals.
