Terdoslavich, Smith, And Gosselin Have Three Hit Nights While Schlehuber Homers Again In Thursday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

Jair Jurrjens gave up a grand slam in a loss, Mississippi won in an offensive explosion, Braeden Schlehuber homered again as Lynchburg beat Dylan Bundy, and Rome got 4-hit.

Columbus Clippers 4, Gwinnett Braves 0

  • Felix Pie, RF: 1-4, 2B, .267
  • Tyler Pastornicky, SS: 1-4, .236
  • Ernesto Mejia, DH: 1-4, .316
  • Jair Jurrjens, SP: 6.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K, 5.27 ERA
  • Jose Lugo, RP: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 3.30 ERA
Jair Jurrjens was doing fine against the Clippers until the 6th, when he allowed a single, two walks, and a grand slam to Clippers' first baseman Russ Canzler. In all he would go 6.2 innings, allowing 7 hits, 2 walks, and striking out three. Jose Lugo pitched 2.1 perfect innings in relief of JJ, but the damage had been done. Gwinnett couldn't get anything going offensively all day, as they were only able to muster 6 hits: 5 singles and a double by Felix Pie.

Gwinnett plays Columbus in a doubleheader tomorrow, with Todd Redmond and Eric Junge getting the starts.

Jacksonville Suns 4, Mississippi Braves 13
  • Phil Gosselin, 2B: 3-6, 2 2B, R, 2 RBI, .272
  • Todd Cunningham, CF: 2-5, 3 R, RBI, BB, .324
  • Tim Smith, LF: 3-5, R, RBI, .333
  • Joey Terdoslavich, 1B: 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, .294
  • Christian Bethancourt, C: 2-4, 3 R, .255
  • Gary Moran, SP: 7.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 8 K, 3.22 ERA. 2-3 batting, R, RBI, BB.
  • Mark Lamm, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 2.73 ERA
Mississippi blew up Jacksonville today, scoring a whopping 13 runs against the Suns on 17 hits. Every regular had at least one hit except for Cory Harrilchak. Of note, Joey Terdoslavich had a great game, going 3-4 with a double (haven't you missed those?) scoring 2 runs and notching 2 RBI. Phil Gosselin led off today and led off well, going 3 for 6 with a pair of doubles, a run, and two RBI. Tim Smith also posted a three-hit day with a run and an RBI, While Todd Cunningham and Christian Bethancourt notched two hits apiece and scored 3 runs as well. Gary Moran had a good start (with a little tough luck). He went 7.2 innings and only allowed 5 baserunners, unfortunately 4 came around to score. He did strike out 8 men, a season high for him.

Luis Avilan pitches tomorrow against the Suns.

Lynchburg Hillcats 5, Frederick Keys 3
  • Matt Lipka, CF: 1-2, 2 BB, 2 R, .267
  • Braeden Schlehuber, C: 1-3, HR(8), BB, .321
  • Nick Ahmed, SS: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI, BB, .262
  • Tommy La Stella, 2B: 1-4, RBI, BB, SB(10), .269
  • Aaron Northcraft, SP: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R (2 ER), 3 BB, 5 K, 3.70 ERA
  • Andrew Wilson, RP: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 2.10 ERA
Lynchburg won a big game, battering Orioles super-prospect Dylan Bundy for 5 runs in only 3.2 innings pitched. Matt Lipka lead the rally from the leadoff spot, reaching base the first three times he got to the plate with a single and two walks. Nick Ahmed chipped in an RBI double as part of a 2 hit day, while Tommy La Stella hit an RBI single and stole his tenth base of the year. Lynchburg's rally was capped by Braeden Schlehuber's second homer in as many days, and his 8th on the year. Aaron Northcraft didn't have his best stuff but still notched a quality start, going 6 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. He also struck out 5.

Gus Schlosser goes tomorrow in game two against the Keys.

Savannah Sand Gnats 6, Rome Braves 0
  • Tony Mueller, CF: 1-3, BB, .259
  • William Beckwith, DH: 1-3, SB(6), .292
  • Greg Ross, SP: 4.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R (4 ER), 4 BB, 3 K, 6.02 ERA
Rome got 4-hit by the Sand Gnats tonight, with Rome's hits coming from Tony Mueller, William Beckwith, Brandon Drury, and Robby Hefflinger. They were all singles. Beckwith stole a base, and Mueller took a walk, but other than that, this was an offensive dud by the R-Braves. The pitching wasn't much better, as Greg Ross got hit hard and often, allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits and 4 walks over 4.1 innings pitched. Not too much else to say about this one.

Rafael Briceno takes the mound against the Sand Gnats tomorrow.
