Redmond Throws a Shutout, Pastornicky And Durango Star For Gwinnett, While Kubitza And Beckwith Go Deep In Friday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

Gwinnett swept a doubleheader behind great pitching and hitting, Lynchburg turned in a balanced game to notch a win, and homers by Beckwith and Kubitza powered Rome, albeit in a losing effort.

Gwinnett swept a doubleheader today behind solid starts from Todd Redmond and Eric Junge. Redmond threw a complete game, 4-hit shutout in game in game 1, striking out 5 men. Junge wasn't quite as sharp in game 2, but still got the job done, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks over 5 innings, while striking out 6. Tyler Pastornicky and Luis Durango lead the way for the G-Braves tonight on offense. Pastornicky went 4-7 on the evening with 5 RBI, 2 doubles, and 2 runs while Durango went 5-7 with a triple, 4 runs, two steals, and an RBI. Durango's 26 steals lead the International League.

Julio Teheran goes tomorrow in his first start since being sent back down to Gwinnett.
Jacksonville Suns 6, Mississippi Braves 1

Luis Avilan got the nod for the M-Braves tonight and pitched well, but Mississippi couldn't manage to muster many runs behind him. Avilan went 6 innings and allowed only 1 earned run on 2 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 4. Mississippi only managed 5 hits tonight, with two of them coming from Todd Cunningham, who hit his 11th double of the year tonight. Cory Rasmus pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, but there wasn't much else to say about this one tonight.

David Hale takes the mound tomorrow trying to rebound from his last start.

Gus Schlosser was solid but not spectacular against the Keys this evening, but was able to get the job done. Schlosser went 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks. Schlosser won his 8th game of the year while only managing 2 strikeouts. For the offense, Matt Lipka again notched a multi-hit game leading off the offense. Edward Salcedo reached base twice on a single and a walk and stole his 12th and 13th bases of the year. Adam Milligan had the big blows on offense, with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly to drive in half the Lynchburg runs.

Jarrett Miller had a tough start for Rome tonight, getting roughed up for 4 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in 3.2 innings. All of Rome's offense came from two two-run shots from William Beckwith and Kyle Kubitza. It was Kubitza's 8th homer of the year, and Beckwith's 6th. For Kubitza, it was his 5th extra base hit in his last 10 games, and during that span he has hit .286/.419/.514 with 8 walks and only 6 strikeouts. Robby Hefflinger and Sergio Miranda each had three hit days as well in the losing effort.
