Braves Acquire LHP Cole McCurry From Orioles

The Atlanta Braves have acquired left-handed pitcher Cole McCurry from the Baltimore Orioles for cash. Orioles beat writer Steve Melewski has the details:

The Orioles have traded minor league left-handed pitcher Cole McCurry to the Atlanta Braves for cash. McCurry had been with the Orioles since they drafted him in round 43 of 2007.

The trade was culminated late last night and came about for two main reasons. One reason is that the Braves have had interest in McCurry before, and two, the Orioles have a roster crunch with too many pitchers for too few spots right now at Triple-A.

He may have been a guy the Braves were eying, but he's likely just a guy that Atlanta acquired to fill out their triple-A rotation, or as an additional arm in the Gwinnett bullpen. The Braves needed a pitcher to take the triple-A roster spot of Kris Medlen after he was promoted to the Majors yesterday.

UPDATE 4:15pm

Another minor league trade as the Braves acquire infielder Jason Christian from Reds A+ club, and assign him to Mississippi. Christian was drafted in the fifth round of the 08 draft by the A's, out of the University of Michigan. He replaces Barrett Kleinknecht, who was placed on the M-Braves DL. Christian is not a prospect, Braves are just plugging holes in their minor league roster.
