Brandon Beachy Injured In 5-0 Loss To Baltimore

Atlanta lost Saturday night's game to Baltimore 5-0, but that may not have been the biggest loss of the night for the Braves.

Starter Brandon Beachy left the game after 3.2 innings due to recurring right elbow soreness. This comes after Beachy's start was pushed back three days to tonight because of that elbow.

Hindsight is obviously 20/20, but if the Braves skipped a Tim Hudson start due to a sore ankle, they should have done the same thing with Beachy and his elbow. Now, on to the game.

Jason Hammel no-hit the Braves for 6.2 innings, and was dominant en route to the 5-0 victory for Baltimore. He allowed only one hit while striking out eight in a complete-game shutout. Beachy didn't allow a hit as well, but had a run charged to him in the fourth inning after he left.

In that fourth inning, Beachy walked Chris Davis with two outs, and immediately called Brian McCann out to the mound and left the game. Anthony Varvaro replaced Beachy, and immediately walked Adam Jones and Matt Weiters to load the bases for Mark Reynolds. Reynolds singled into left, scoring Davis and Jones. That made it a 2-0 game.

The final line on Beachy was 3.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.

Baltimore added another run in the fifth off of Varvaro. Steve Pearce singled to start the inning, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Hammel. Brian Roberts followed with a single to left that brought Pearce in to score and made it a 3-0 game.

The Orioles added two more runs in the seventh on two singles, a sacrifice bunt, and another single from Roberts.

Hammel took that 5-0 lead and his no-hitter into the seventh, but Jason Heyward singled to left field with two outs to break up the no-no. That was the Braves only hit of the night.

But the big news was of course Beachy, who is headed for an MRI as soon as one can be scheduled according to the Braves twitter account.
