Hale and Martin Dazzle On The Mound While Milligan And Beckwith Go Yard In Saturday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

Gwinnett had no answers for Columbus tonight, Hale and Martin hurled gems for the M-Braves and Hillcats, while Rome's late rally fell short.

Columbus Clippers 6, Gwinnett Braves 1

  • Jose Constanza, LF: 1-3, HR(1), .280
  • Luis Durango, CF: 1-3, .282
  • Christian Marrero, 1B: 1-3, .245
  • Julio Teheran, SP: 4 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 3.24 ERA
  • Jaye Chapman, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 2.67 ERA
Gwinnett was three-hit by the Clippers tonight in a forgettable offensive performance, with their only run coming by way of a Jose Constanza solo homer, his first of the year. Luis Durango and Christian Marrero were the only other G-Braves to collect hits on the night, both singles. Julio Teheran started for Gwinnett and was pulled after 4 innings and 86 pitches, though whether his pulling was due to ineffectiveness, pitch count, or a potential callup to Atlanta is unknown. Teheran wasn't exactly sharp, but he wasn't pitching too badly either, having given up 2 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks with 2 punchouts.

Yohan Flande takes the mound tomorrow for Gwinnett.

Jacksonville Suns 3, Mississippi Braves 4
  • Joey Terdoslavich, 1B: 2-3, 2B, R, RBI, BB, .300
  • Christian Bethancourt, C: 2-4, 2B, R, .262
  • Keenan Wiley, RF: 2-3, .267
  • Todd Cunningham, CF: 1-4, R, SB(9), .325
  • David Hale, SP: 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K, 4.21 ERA
  • Andrew Russell, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 2.45 ERA
David Hale continued his great start-disaster start pattern by hurling a gem tonight against Jacksonville. Hale dominated the Suns over 7 innings, allowing just 1 run (a solo homer) on 5 hits. Hale didn't walk a batter and struck out 6 as he threw 68 of his 94 pitches for strikes. He also got 9 groundball outs to only 3 flyouts as well. Ian Gac's pinch-hit two run single proved the difference, but he wasn't the offensive story tonight. Joey Terdoslavich continued a great week with a 2-3 night, hitting his 5th double since his demotion (he only hit 4 all year with Gwinnett prior). Terdoslavich scored a run and drew a walk as well. Christian Bethancourt also had a two-hit night with a double and a run. Todd Cunningham extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the 8th inning, and stole his 9th base of the year as well before scoring what would be the game-winning run.

Sean Gilmartin looks for his 5th win of the year tomorrow against the Suns.

Lynchburg Hillcats 6, Frederick Keys 1
  • Tommy La Stella, DH: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI, .271
  • Adam Milligan, LF: 1-4, HR(5), 2 RBI, .262
  • Edward Salcedo, 3B: 1-4, 2B, R, .262
  • Chris Garcia, 1B: 1-3, 2B, R, RBI, BB, .313
  • Cody Martin, SP: 5.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 8 K, 3.47 ERA
  • Ryne Harper, RP: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 0.00 ERA
Cody Martin was stellar tonight, dominating the Keys over 5.2 one-hit innings. Martin's one hit allowed was a homer, but other than that he dazzled, striking out 8 men while only walking two. Lynchburg scored behind a balanced offense tonight, as 7 different players notched hits. Tommy La Stella was the only Hillcat to record a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with an RBI double and a run scored. Adam Milligan had the big blast for Lynchburg, a two run homer, his fifth on the year. Edward Salcedo and Chris Garcia both hit doubles and scored runs as well.

Dimasther Delgado toes the rubber for Lynchburg tomorrow against the Keys.

Savannah Sand Gnats 9, Rome Braves 8
  • Fernando De Los Santos, 2B: 3-5, 2 2B, 2 R, RBI, .241
  • Kyle Kubitza, 3B: 3-4, R, RBI, BB, .252
  • Will Skinner, LF: 3-5, 2 RBI, R, .264
  • William Beckwith, 1B: 2-5, HR(7), .296
  • Tony Mueller, CF: 2-5, R, RBI, .267
  • Ernesto Silva, SP: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 4 K, 6.53 ERA
Poor Ernesto Silva dropped to 0-6 on the year after being let down by his defense in this one. Rome committed 3 errors behind Silva that lead to 4 unearned runs, marring Silva's final line. Silva only made it through 4.1 innings, allowing 3 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Rome made a late rally, scoring 4 runs in the 9th, but fell just short. Fernando De Los Santos, Kyle Kubitza, and Will Skinner each notched 3 hit games, with De Los Santos hammering out a pair of doubles as well. William Beckwith hit a solo homer, his 7th on the year and second in as many days

Ryan Weber goes tomorrow for Rome, looking to improve on his 6.88 ERA
