Fortunes Reversed: Braves Take Series With Yankees.

After being swept by the Yankees only a week ago, Atlanta looked like it might be heading down that path again, dropping game one of the series. Fortunately, the Braves won the last two games to take the series from New York and snap the Bronx Bombers' 10 game win streak.

Mike Minor started the first game against CC Sabathia and didn't have his best stuff, though he was far from bad. Minor tossed 5.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7 Yankees. The Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead in that game behind RBI from Michael Bourn and Martin Prado, but could never really break through against Sabathia. CC settled down and the Yankees offense came alive scoring 6 runs in the latter half of the ballgame to win it. Sabathia threw a complete game, allowing only the two runs on 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 10 Braves.

Game two was a back and forth affair that saw multiple lead changes but utlimately saw a laboring Tim Hudson outduel Hiroki Kuroda for his fifth win of the year. Jason Heyward was the star in this one, throwing out a runner at the plate and knocking in the winning run on a line drive that hit Mark Teixeira in the foot so hard he would miss the next game. Atlanta's bullpen threw 4 innings of 1 hit ball to lock down Huddy's win as Atlanta won 4-3.

The rubber match of the series was a one o'clock getaway game in the sweltering New York heat. With temperatures climbing into triple digits, balls were sailing out of Yankee stadium, as the Braves and the Yankees combined to hit 9 homers, which tied this year's record. With jacks from Martin Prado, David Ross, Freddie Freeman, and a pair from Jason Heyward, the Braves battered Phil Hughes and the Yankees' bullpen en route to a 10-5 victory and a series win. Every Brave in the starting 9 with the exception of Brian McCann and Andrelton Simmons had a hit and scored a run. Tommy Hanson pitched 5 innings, giving up 4 runs all on solo homers. He stuck out 5 and walked two.

Freddie Freeman debuted on Tuesday after missing five game due to his hurt finger. He went 1-7 with a homer, two runs, and three RBI in his two games back.

After an off-day today, the Braves travel to Fenway Park to wrap up interleague play with the Boston Red Sox. The series will see the return of Jair Jurrjens to Atlanta's rotation, despite lackluster AAA numbers since his demotion.

Before the final game of the series, Andruw Jones and Derek Jeter presented Chipper with third base from the previous night's game. The Yankees' PA even played Crazy Train as Chipper jogged out to accept the award. Pretty cool stuff.
