Braves Rack Up 17 Hits in 8-1 Win Over Arizona

Atlanta unveiled a new, shiny lineup on Tuesday night, and that lineup made a great first impression against Daniel Hudson and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Braves racked up 17 hits (tied for most all year in a nine-inning game) en route to an 8-1 victory.

Michael Bourn got things started in the bottom of the first inning, as he homered on the sixth pitch of his at-bat. It was his 7th homer of the season, and 20th of his career. Can't say enough how incredible he's been this year, and I can only imagine how thrilled Scott Boras must be.

The Braves tacked on four more in the second. Chipper Jones led off with a double, and came around to score on a double from Freddie Freeman. Andrelton Simmons followed with a single that brought Freeman in from second to score and make it 3-0.

After Tim Hudson struck out on a foul bunt (that almost hit him in the head), Bourn singled to put runners on first and third with one out. Jason Heyward (who proved he doesn't melt when hit outside of the seventh spot in the order) brought in Simmons on a sacrifice fly.

Martin Prado put runners back on first and third with a single, and that would be all for Daniel Hudson, who left with tightness in his right forearm. McCann greeted Josh Collmenter with a single to center that scored Bourn and made it 5-0.

Tim Hudson allowed his only run of the night in the third inning thanks to a Jason Kubel solo homer to centerfield. Otherwise, he was spectacular and hopefully his bothersome ankle keeps allowing him to pitch like this every time out.

Two more runs crossed the plate for Atlanta in the seventh on a Simmons double and a sac fly from Hudson. A run-scoring single from McCann in the eighth ended the scoring at 8-1.

Anthony Varvaro pitched a scoreless ninth.
