Julio Teheran twirled a gem against Charlotte, but other than that it was a rough night for the Braves' minor league teams. Mississippi was swept in a doubleheader while Lynchburg and Rome combined for 3 runs over 18 innings.

Julio Teheran was back to taking souls tonight, as he threw a complete game, allowing only one run. Teheran allowed only seven baserunners, all on hits. He didn't walk a batter and stuck out 6, including two in the ninth inning. Teheran needed only 109 pitches for his complete game and was the model of efficiency, throwing 77 of his 109 for strikes. The only run he allowed was on a solo home run. Felix Pie, saw his first action in the three-hole tonight, and went 1-4 with an RBI double, a steal, and a run. Pie is now hitting .288 after going 14-35 (.400) over his last ten games. Tyler Pastornicky went 1-3 with a walk, run, and his second steal of the year. Christian Marrero reached twice as well with a double and a walk.

Mississippi Braves 0, Huntsville Stars 4 - Game 1

Mississippi was two-hit by Huntsville today, with both hits being singles: one from Todd Cunningham and one from the recently-demoted Greg Paiml. That was all the offense Mississippi could muster against Huntsville. Gary Moran threw a complete game (6 innings) for the M-Braves in the loss, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and a walk. Moran also struck out 4 men. While not a great start, it wasn't really a terrible outing by Moran, and still counted as a quality start.

In the nightcap, Mississippi lost a heartbreaker as a Mark Lamm throwing error allowed Huntsville to score two runs in the bottom of the 7th, the second of which walked off for the Stars. Chris Masters had a disastrous start, allowing 6 baserunners and two home runs in 2.1 innings of play. It's never a good sign when you have more homers allowed than strikeouts. Todd Cunningham was the only M-Brave to notch a multi-hit game, going 2-3 with a steal, RBI, and run. Ian Gac hit a two run homer, his 5th of the year. Keenan Wiley also reached base twice with a walk and a single. The right fielder has been cold of late, posting a .143 average over his last 10 games, so hopefully he can build off today's outing.
Mississippi will try to break a 4 game losing streak when they send Luis Avilan to the mound against the Stars tomorrow.
Lynchburg Hillcats 0, Potomac Nationals 8

Lynchburg saw how much fun Mississippi was having, and decided to get 2-hit as well. David Rohm and Braeden Schlehuber had a double and a triple, respectively, that counted for all the offense the M-Braves could muster against the P-Nats. Blaine Sims was blown up, allowing 10 baserunners and 7 runs (only 4 earned) over 5 innings pitched. The 4 errors the Hillcats made behind Sims didn't help matters at all - it's always a bad sign when your team makes twice as many errors as hits. The only bright spot for Lynchburg today was Matt Chaffee, who threw two perfect innings in relief, striking out three.

Rome Braves 1, Lexington Legends 4

Rome decided to one up Lynchburg and Mississippi and got 1-hit tonight by the Lexington Legends. William Beckwith's 5th homer of the year was the only hit Rome would have on the day. On the other side of the ball, Ernesto Silva had another rough start, allowing 4 runs over 5 innings on 5 hits and 2 walks. On the year, Silva's ERA sits at 6.55 and his WHIP is an unseemly 1.67. The Braves bullpen threw 4 scoreless behind SIlva, but it didn't matter as the offense wasn't up to the task today.
