Atlanta Braves at New York Mets Series Recap: Sixth Straight Series Win

Thanks to a furious rally and the Mets' tragically bad bullpen, Atlanta came very close to sweeping New York on Sunday. Instead, the Braves will have to be happy with taking two out of three and winning their sixth series in a row. Some notes from this past weekend's series:

We have to start with Paul Maholm. In just his second start for Atlanta, the left-hander fired a complete game, three-hit shutout despite not touching higher than 89 miles per hour velocity wise. Maholm struck out five while walking none, and done a great job endearing himself to a new team and fan base.

Freddie Freeman had himself quite a series, including mashing a pair of gigantic home runs. He went 4-11, and his home run on Saturday went an estimated 455 feet. Not too shabby.

Poor Josh Edgin just didn't have for the Mets this weekend. The left-hander reliever had a series line of 1.1 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, and 2 K.

Kris Medlen made his case to stay in the rotation as he struck out seven batters in 6.1 innings Saturday night. He allowed just five hits and walked one, possibly pushing the Braves to a six-man rotation for a few weeks.

Michael Bourn had a big series, going 4-11 with four walks, a double, and a stolen base. '

The trio of David Wright, Ike Davis, and Jordany Valdespin gave Atlanta fits on Sunday. They combined for five runs batted in and six hits, including a pair of doubles and a long homer from Valdespin.
