Uggla, Prado Homer; Hudson Dominates Padres For Atlanta's 6-0 Victory

The Braves continue to make life miserable for Clayton Richard. The San Diego lefty fell to 0-5 against Atlanta while Tim Hudson had Padres hitters beating the ball into the ground, inducing 10 groundouts for a 6-0 win.

Unlike yesterday, Atlanta wasted little time pushing a runner across home. Michael Bourn led off the game with a triple and scored on Freddie Freeman's groundout. That was the only hit against Richard until a Chipper Jones double in the fourth.

With a 1-0 lead, Hudson did what he does best and that is keep the ball on the ground. He coaxed seven groundouts through the first four innings and didn't allow a hit until the fifth. Dan Uggla extended Atlanta's lead with a solo homer in the fifth, his first hit in eight tries against Richard. The lead increased further the very next inning when two straight singles started the inning, then Chipper drove home Martin Prado with a base hit for a 3-0 lead.

Hudson left the game with one out in the seventh having given up just two hits and striking out four; Richard likewise was pulled that same inning. Michael Bourn's infield hit with one out chased the lefty, putting two on for Martin Prado against reliever Brad Boxberger. That strategy backfired because Prado hammered a three-run homer to center, his first long ball since June 20.

The bullpen took care of the rest, preserving Hudson's 12th win of the season.
