Wood Tosses A Beauty, Ahmed Shows Off His Speed, And Dodig Has A Five RBI Game In Friday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

Gwinnett Braves 3, Durham Bulls 5

  • Ernesto Mejia, 1B: 1-4, HR(23), 3 RBI, .307
  • Josh Kroeger, LF: 2-3, BB, .246
  • Miguel Batista, SP: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K, 1.80 ERA
  • Peter Moylan, RP: 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 9.00 ERA

Gwinnett was 4-hit tonight by the Bulls, but fortunately for the G-Braves, one of the hits was a 3 run homer by Ernesto Mejia. Mejia's blast was his 23rd of the year and accounted for all of Gwinnett's offense for the evening. Miguel Batista started for Gwinnett tonight and, though wild, pitched well. Batista threw 5 innings of shutout ball, allowing only 3 hits. He walked 4 and struck out 5 on the evening, throwing 45 of his 84 pitches for strikes. Peter Moylan made his first Gwinnett appearance this year, giving up a run on 3 hits. He did strike out 2, however.

Julio Teheran pitches tomorrow, looking to improve on his 5.16 ERA.

Mississippi Braves 3, Chattanooga Lookouts 8

  • Evan Gattis, LF: 1-4, 3B, 2 RBI, R, .276
  • Joey Terdoslavich, 1B: 1-4, .309
  • Phil Gosselin, 2B-RF: 1-4, RBI, .249
  • Brent Leach, SP: 5.2 IP, 9 H, 8 R (4 ER), 2 BB, 4 K, 3.34 ERA

Mississippi got clobbered by Chattanooga tonight, as the M-Braves were only able to muster 5 hits on the evening (sound familiar?). Evan Gattis had the big blow, a two run triple that was his only hit on the evening. Phil Gosselin drove in Gattis for the only other M-Braves' run. Gosselin, Mississippi's second baseman, got some time in right field tonight as part of a double switch. Brent Leach gave up 8 runs across 5.2 innings, but only half of them were earned, the other 4 were courtesy of 2 errors by Joey Terdoslavich. Leach struck out 4 and walked two, but was outclassed by Lookouts pitcher Matt Magill, who struck out a dozen M-Braves in 7.1 innings.

David Hale gets the ball tomorrow against the Lookouts.

Lynchburg Hillcats 7, Carolina Mudcats 2

  • Nick Ahmed, SS: 2-5, R, 2 SB(32,33), .273
  • Myke Jones, CF: 1-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI, SB(15), .264
  • David Rohm, RF: 1-4, HR(2), RBI, 2 R, .231
  • Gus Schlosser, SP: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 2.91 ERA

Lynchburg somehow managed to score 7 runs on only 7 hits tonight. Nick Ahmed was the only Hillcat to collect multiple hits, going 2-5 with a run and two steals. Ahmed now has 33 steals on the season, which still tops the Carolina League. Myke Jones was active on the basepaths as well, as Lynchburg's leadoff man had a 2 RBI double and stole his 15th base. David Rohm added to the fireworks with his 2nd homer of the year. Gus Schlosser picked up his 12th win of the year, allowing two runs on 4 hits over 5 innings.

Cody Martin looks to match Schlosser's 12th win tomorrow.

Rome Braves 9, Kannapolis Intimidators 1

  • Robby Hefflinger, DH: 3-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, R, .276
  • William Beckwith, 1B: 2-5, 2B, 2 R, .308
  • Ross Heffley, 2B: 1-5, HR(2), 3 RBI, .281
  • Ryan Query, C: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R, BB, .220
  • Alex Wood, SP: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K, 1.80 ERA

Alex Wood sure intimidated the Intimidators tonight (I'll show myself out), dominating Kannapolis over 5 strong innings. Wood allowed only 3 baserunners, giving up 1 run but striking out a whopping 8 men. Wood doubled his previous (brief) career high of 4 Ks in a game, and now has 27 strikeouts in 30 professional innings. The R-Braves teed off, scoring 9 runs, highlighted by Ross Heffley's 3 run blast. Robby Hefflinger chipped in with a pair of doubles and a single to drive in two, while William Beckwith and Ryan Query each had a single and a double.

Rome plays Kannapolis again tomorrow, probables TBA.

Bristol White Sox @ Danville Braves - Doubleheader - Postponed

Danville will travel to Elizabethton to take on the Twins tomorrow. No make up date has been announced as of yet for today's rainout.

GCL Yankees 7, GCL Braves 6

  • Mike Dodig, 3B: 2-4, 2B, HR(2), 5 RBI, .173
  • Joey Meneses, RF: 1-3, BB, 2 R, .291
  • K.C. Clabough, 2B: 2-4, 2B, RBI, SB(6), .414
  • Roberto Estrella, SP: 3 IP, 5 H, 7 R (6 ER), 4 BB, 1 K, 6.60 ERA

Roberto Estrella had a disastrous start, allowing 6 earned runs in 3 innings tonight to the Yankees' GCL team. Estrella allowed 9 baserunners across 3 innings. Estrella only stuck out one, and his last three starts have seen him give up 13 runs in 11.1 innings with a 4/7 K/BB ratio. Hardly confidence-inspiring. The Braves managed to put up 6 runs though, thanks in large part to Mike Dodig, who hit a 3 run homer and a 2 RBI double.

The GCL Braves take on the GCL Yanks again tomorrow.
