Braves GM Doesn't Expect Front Line Trade

DOB reports that Frank Wren does not expect a front line trade. I mentioned last week that this is certainly a fine decision in my opinion.

Tea Party Battles of Braves New Stadium

An Atlanta tea party leader, Debbie Dooley expresses her disdain with the Braves getting so much public funding for the new Cobb County Stadium.

Eric O'Flaherty may be coming back to Atlanta

Scott catches a tweet from Jason Stark saying that other teams think Eric O'Flaherty will be heading back to Atlanta. Coming off Tommy John surgery, O'Flaherty will miss a big part of the beginning of the year, but it could allow the Braves to get him on a discount and maybe even for another year.

Bobby Cox is headed to the Hall of Fame!

Bobby Cox along with Joe Torre and Tony LaRussa have been elected to the Hall of Fame. It comes as no surprise to any of us, but it is most certainly great news for a legend in Atlanta sports. Torre also played a big role in Braves teams of past and managed here prior to making his mark with the New York Yankees.

League Wide News

Roy Halladay Retires at Age 36

After starting just 13 games last year and struggling like he never has before, Roy Halladay has decided to hang up the spikes. In a very nice move, he will retire after signing a one day contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. Mark Prior is also retiring.

The Mets are Trying to Trade Daniel Murphy

Infielder Daniel Murphy may be on the move. I think Murphy would make a lot of sense in Atlanta if they are able to trade Dan Uggla this offseason. Murphy, currently a second baseman, could start in Atlanta at second but could also back up third and first base if something were to happen to Chris Johnson or Freddie Freeman.

Danny Espinosa is on the Trading Block

He of the "Nationals are better than the Braves" quotes after the Braves continually beat up the Nats this year, Danny Espinosa, may not be a member of the squad for too much longer. Espinosa is an interesting trade target for some teams, maybe even the Braves, due to his young age and past production. Last year he was terrible though, and I do not have a ton of confidence in him improving.

The Phillies are Willing to Listen on Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee

A report came out earlier in the day that they would like to "sell high" on Domonic Brown as well. The Phillies may be in full on sell mode as Jonathan Papelbon is reportedly on the block in addition to three of their better players. This could be good news for the Braves short term division prospects, but it seems like the Phillies may be willing to reload which could be worrisome for the rest of the division down the line, if they do the rebuild right.
