2014 Minor League Coaching Changes

A quick run down on who will be coaching where in 2014

Gwinnett Braves

  • Manager: Brian Snitker
  • Hitting Coach: Garey Ingram
  • Pitching Coach: Marty Reed
A familiar face will be coaching the Gwinnett Braves in 2014, former third base coach Brian Snitker. He has managed 17 seasons in the Braves system before his seven year stint as third base coach. Garey Ingram will join Gwinnett after serving four seasons as the Mississippi Braves hitting coach. Maybe this move will bode well for Christian Bethancourt, to have a consistent voice who seemed to get him on track during this past season. Marty Reed will continue to manage the Triple-A staff, his fourth season at this level.

  • Manager: Aaron Holbert
  • Hitting Coach: Jamie Dismuke
  • Pitching Coach: Dennis Lewallyn
After leading the club to the playoffs last season, Aaron Holbert will return for his third season as the skipper. Dismuke, who essentially has switched positions with Ingram, spent the past five seasons in the system with Gwinnett. Lewallyn will oversee the pitching staff for the second consecutive year. After having success guiding Alex Wood's development last season, he looks to mold the next core of Braves pitching prospects.

  • Manager: Luis Salazar
  • Hitting Coach: John Moses
  • Pitching Coach: Derrick Lewis
Salazar will return for his fourth season at the helm of the Hillcats, his 12th overall as a minor league manager. Moses will return for his second season in the Braves organization, after being plucked from the Astros system after the 2012 season. Lewis will spend his first season with the High-A club after earning a promotion from Rome. He was a former player in the system after being drafted by the club in 1997. Lynchburg should expect to see a young talented group of players make a stop there this coming season.

  • Manager: Jonathan Schuerholz
  • Hitting Coach: Bobby Moore
  • Pitching Coach: Gabe Luckert
Schuerholz will enter 2014 as Rome's new manager after spending time with Danville and the GCL. Moore will return as the hitting coach for Rome, spending a decade at various positions with in the organization. Luckert also has been promoted in similar fashion after spending time as a pitching instructor with the same teams.

  • Manager: Randy Ingle
  • Hitting Coach: Carlos Mendez
  • Pitching Coach: Dan Meyer
Randy Ingle with flip places with Schuerholz and will return to Danville after spending time with Rome. This will be his 24th season in the organization. Mendez will become Danville's new hitting coach after spending multiple years at various positions in the system. A former 1st round pick, Dan Meyer will make his professional coaching debut in Danville.

GCL Braves
  • Manager: Ralph Wheeler
  • Hitting Coach: Rick Albert
  • Pitching Coach: Willian Martinez
Wheeler will return to coach the youngin's in 2014, his third season with the team. Long time, and I mean long time, coach Rick Albert, will return as the hitting coach. He has held a position in the organization since 1972. Martinez will return for his second season with the GCL team.

Earlier in the offseason, the Braves lost both their minor league hitting coordinator Don Long and minor league pitching coordinator Dave Wallace. Long will join the Reds as their new hitting coach. Wallace was scooped up buy the Orioles and will become the teams pitching coach. Wallace was a tough one to lose, as he is a very well respected pitching mind in baseball circles.

Former Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee, will replace Wallace as the Braves' minor league pitching coordinator. Ronnie Ortegon will fill the shoes of Long as the organizations new minor league hitting coordinator.
