There's really not a whole lot to recap here, as Atlanta starter Paul Maholm got rocked for 8 earned runs on 10 ten hits in just 3.2 innings. Maholm walked three and struck out three, but had his first tough outing against an opponent all season.
On the other hand, Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez was dominant, striking out 17 Atlanta hitters in eight innings of work en-route to a huge win. He allowed just five hits and one walked in his superb outing for Detroit.
Surprisingly, Detroit's star- studded offense was led by left fielder Matt Tuiasosopo, who delivered the majority of the damage with five runs batted in on two hits, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Torii Hunter and Victor Martinez added three hits apiece, while Jhonny Peralta and Miguel Cabrera contributed two hits of their own.
Andrelton Simmons and Chris Johnson both recorded two hits in an otherwise forgettable performance by Atlanta's offense.
